The Lead Field Technician is responsible for overseeing the collection, transportation, and delivery of water samples to the laboratory, ensuring compliance with laboratory protocols, safety standards, and quality control procedures. This role includes mentoring and coordinating field personnel, managing sampling schedules, and serving as the primary point of contact for field operations.
- Lead and coordinate daily field operations, including sample collection, transportation, and timely delivery to the laboratory
- Assign and monitor sampling events, ensuring efficiency and compliance
- Collect environmental samples from wastewater plants, industrial sites, and other designated locations using proper sampling methods
- Perform field measurements for environmental parameters such as pH, Chlorine, Temperature, Dissolved Oxygen, and Conductivity
- Maintain accurate logs of sample collection, transportation times, and discrepancies; ensure proper documentation accompanies all samples
- Oversee vehicle and equipment maintenance, including coolers, ice packs, and other field tools
- Communicate collection schedules, delivery statuses, and field issues to laboratory staff, clients, and management
- Train and mentor new field technicians in sample collection techniques, safety protocols, and QA/QC standards
- Ensure adherence to all safety, regulatory, and quality protocols, including sample preservation and hazardous material handling
- Represent the laboratory professionally when interacting with clients at collection sites
- Follow all safety and regulatory protocols during sampling activities
- Maintain accurate records of sampling locations, methods, and site conditions Coordinate with laboratory staff to ensure correct materials and containers are used
Basic Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma required
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Authorization to work in the U.S. or Canada without restriction.
- Professional working proficiency in English is a requirement, including the ability to read, write and speak in English.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to supervise, mentor, and coordinate field staff effectively
- Attention to detail and adherence to protocols
- Effective communication with supervisors, laboratory staff, and clients
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Additional training or certification in environmental sciences, logistics, or related fields preferred
- Proven experience in environmental sample collection, courier services, or field operations
- Leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Position is full-time, Monday-Friday, 7 A.M.- 3:30 PM, with additional time as needed.
- Position is located at our Marion, Ohio location.
- Position Pay Range is $18-20/hr based on experience.
