Job Summary
We are seeking a dependable and safety-conscious Class A CDL Yard Spotter to join our transportation team in the Dayton, Ohio area. This position is responsible for the safe movement of trailers within the yard as well as transporting equipment between local off-site yard locations. (Within 5 Miles.) The ideal candidate will have strong backing and maneuvering skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Duties
- Safely move trailers throughout the yard and position them at loading and unloading docks.
- Transport trailers and equipment between company facilities and designated off-site yard locations.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of tractors and trailers.
- Verify trailer locations and maintain accurate yard inventory.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, warehouse personnel, and management.
- Report equipment defects, damage, or maintenance needs promptly.
- Follow all company safety procedures and DOT regulations.
- Assist with general yard operations as needed.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Safe driving record.
- Ability to maneuver trailers in tight spaces and congested yard environments.
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and background check.
- Strong attention to safety and detail.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous yard spotter, yard jockey, shuttle driver, or tractor-trailer experience.
- Experience working in warehouse, manufacturing, or distribution center environments.
- Familiarity with DOT regulations and vehicle inspections.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to climb in and out of tractors multiple times throughout the shift.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and sit for extended periods.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
