Position Summary

This is a full-time, 1.0 FTE/8 hours per day position working on the AD-12 (260 days per full school year) schedule, Mon-Fri.

The Director of Technology envisions and works to provide a robust technology infrastructure that supports not only current but also emerging and potential technologies throughout the District, including hardware and mobile devices used to access information from the student information system, the data warehouse, and the District website. The Director guides and monitors the application of instructional technology, and provides input into the selection of hardware and software for educational purposes. The Director also provides leadership for integrating technology into the instructional framework, with an emphasis on enhancing student outcomes, teacher effectiveness, and school-family communications. The Director of Technology is responsible for the leadership and implementation of Districtwide functions involving computer networks, telecommunications, cloud storage, and other technological devices and applications germane to administrative purposes. The Director also provides and/or directs the provision of professional development related to instructional and administrative uses of technology.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • This position has the following expectations and prerequisite abilities.

    • Extensive knowledge of hardware and software applications for educational purposes
    • Ability to move comfortably between emerging and existing technologies, software, and tools in ways that engage staff and students
    • Knowledge of data privacy laws and practices
    • Ability to approach problems and issues from multiple perspectives and to recommend multiple applications of technology to address District needs
    • Ability to prepare and manage budgets, address multiple priorities, lead and supervise staff, adapt to change, and meet timelines
    • Ability to effectively communicate, disseminate, and effectuate verbal or written communication and directives to a diverse group of administrators, staff, and the broader district community.
    • Maintain a high degree of professionalism, integrity, dependability and maintain a high level of confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and adherence to the competent and ethical educator practices.
    • Promotion of equity and diversity in all settings and processes and a commitment to anti-racists principles.
    • Maintain compliance with state and federal laws governing all aspects of our agency including ORS, OAR, IDEA, FOIA, and CIPA.
    • Exceptional prioritization of tasks, timely completion of work assignments, ability to take the initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Demonstrates respectful, flexible and effective teambuilding skills of cooperation, communication and active participation.
    • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directives, find requested data and present in user-friendly formats for internal and public distribution.
    • Maintain regular attendance at work. Be punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedules.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered qualified as determined by Human Resources.

Education
  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Educational Technology, or related field required, including coursework in strategic implementation of technology and innovation, management information systems, and database management technology
  • Knowledge and applied understanding of instructional applications of a wide range of hardware and software in a variety of educational settings

Experience
  • Five (5) years of successful experience in an administrative position working with networked and electronic data systems, preferably in an educational setting
  • Supervisory experience in directing and managing professional and classified staff
  • Expertise and experience in providing training in the administrative and/or instructional uses of technology
  • Experience with Windows, Linux, and MAC OS X-based computing environments supporting 1500 Staff
  • Experience in developing and managing budgets and in planning for capital bonds, $15M

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in one of the above areas preferred
  • Experience with education-related technology tools and applications desired
