JOB OVERVIEW
The Shipping Clerk stocks supplies for the shipping department, prepares outbound orders for shipping, and serves as a backup for additional shipping duties as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Receive inbound shipments when needed
- Unpack and stock supplies in the shipping area
- Break down large quantities of supplies into smaller quantities for outbound shipments
- Notify the appropriate person when shipping supply inventory is getting low
- Maintain shipping department in an organized and orderly manner
- Deliver incoming orders to other departments when needed
- Answer the buzzer when vendors or visitors arrive
- Perform 2nd Check process on outbound shipments
- Check items to be shipped against the supply request to confirm that quantities, destination, and customer information are correct
- Assemble orders for shipping, using appropriate shipping container
- Move completed outbound shipments to a designated pick-up area
- Ensure that all packages needing to be shipped out are ready when FedEx/UPS arrives
- File shipping requests appropriately when completed
- As needed, perform additional shipping duties as a backup
- Answer incoming calls to the Shipping department
- Receive and process shipping requests from internal and external customers via phone, e-mail, online, or paper requests
- Print requisition forms and shipping labels with correct customer information, cross-referenced with information in the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
- Prepare appropriate outbound shipping labels
- Respond to internal/external customer inquiries related to shipments
- Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or GED required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally, and in writing
- Ability to function seamlessly in a team environment and promote collaboration
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work in varying degrees of temperature (heated or air conditioned)
- Position requires sitting, walking, reaching, bending, stooping, and handling objects with hands and/or fingers, talking and/or hearing, and seeing
- Work will be performed in a laboratory environment and exposes the incumbent to normal laboratory hazards and chemicals, including biohazard materials
- Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds
