Basic Function
The Case Manager provides services that assist refugees in adjusting to life in the United States by helping the refugee or client meet immediate needs upon arrival and by preparing and implementing a resettlement plan in accordance with timelines and requirements of ETSS, Global Refuge, and/or other funding sources.
Responsibilities
• Serve as an advocate and resource for clients
• Assist with preparation for arrival of refugees, including assuring that housing is available and determining whether special medical attention will be required
• Greet refugees at the airport and transport them to residences
• Provide orientation for clients as soon as possible following arrival in accordance with program and contractual guidelines
• Assist with development of a self-sufficiency plan in cooperation with ETSS staff with the goal of helping clients reach self-sufficiency within established time periods
• Assist clients in applying for eligible public benefits, medical assistance, food stamps, cash assistance, enrollment of children in school, obtaining Social Security cards, and other needed services
• Ensure that refugees receive initial health screening and medical care if needed
• Assist clients in obtaining medical coverage through available programs and schedule medical and dental appointments
• Arrange transportation for clients to appointments when appropriate
• Obtain the services of an interpreter whenever necessary to ensure culturally and linguistically appropriate delivery of services
• Monitor client progress through telephone or personal contacts throughout the period of service
• Maintain client case notes of all contacts and document all client services in a timely and accurate manner
• Provide data required for various reports and submit all required reports in a timely and accurate manner
• Serve as a liaison with the local community regarding refugee resettlement program questions and assist both the community and clients in understanding each other
• Assist clients in obtaining and retaining employment and identify barriers to employment
• Coordinate services with other key staff to ensure comprehensive services for refugees
• Attend and participate in staff meetings
• Participate in community outreach activities that advance the work and message of ETSS and Global Refuge
• Comply with all federal, state, and Global Refuge service contracts
• Demonstrate an organized and proactive approach to client services, program reporting, and communication with agency staff
• Perform other duties as assigned
Education
• Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated experience

• Commitment to the human rights and general welfare of parolees, asylum seekers, refugees, and immigrants
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, multicultural office environment; take initiative; and handle and prioritize multiple assignments
• Valid driver’s license and access to personal transportation required; willingness to transport clients in your vehicle
• Ability to work some late nights and weekends
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including comprehensive case noting
• Language capacity in common refugee language(s), preferred
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Negotiation and conflict management skills
• General knowledge of refugee resettlement practices in the U.S., preferred
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications
