What are the responsibilities and job description for the PART-TIME ESL INSTRUCTOR position at Ethiopian Community Center (ECC) Inc.?
The Ethiopian Community Center, Inc. (ECC) is seeking a qualified part-time ESOL instructor for its Vocational English Language Program. The program offers beginner, intermediate, and advanced English literacy courses for African immigrant residents with limited English proficiency. The objective of this program is to equip adults in low wage and low skill jobs with English language skills and increase their access to educational and workforce development opportunities. In addition to in-class instruction, the program will include conversation practice sessions, culturally and linguistically competent counseling, and linkage to workforce development and education programs.
ECC is seeking to hire a part-time ESL instructor during the 12-week session for a total of three terms per year. The class meets once a week on Saturday mornings for four hours from 9am - 1pm.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
* Enhance the program curriculum and design lesson plans that align language acquisition goals with students’ educational and career goals.
* Develop course materials specific to the assigned level and prepare weekly lesson plans that reflect students’ educational and career interests; Provide engaging instruction that supports multiple learning styles and preferences.
*Assess student progress and learning gains using various evaluation tools and methods and develop plans for addressing learning gaps.
* Periodically meet and work with program staff to enhance students’ experience and exposure through partnerships with employment and education service providers, and out of class learning opportunities.
* Serve as a liaison between students and program staff to respond to student needs for support and refer students to appropriate services.
* Maintain excellent records pertaining to the program including student attendance, progress, gains and needs.
* Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and program planning.
QUALIFICATIONS
Successful candidates will have:
A Bachelor or Master of Arts degree in adult education, linguistics, TESOL or related
field
At least three years of experience teaching English as a Second Language or foreign
language
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Proficiency in using instructional technology and online teaching tools
Experience working in adult education or multicultural environments
