Apply today and start driving your career forward!Position Overview:Operations Supervisors are responsible for the bus operators supervision; reporting of operational problem areas; bus operator training; vehicle dispatching and supervision; and performing other duties as assigned.When required, will act as a dispatcher, involving taking requests for transportation services from eligible clients and members of the general public (including explaining how clients can use the system); assisting passengers with trip planning; handling scheduling, confirming, and cancellation of trips; preparing daily trip logs of drivers; maintaining two-way communication with drivers throughout the day, and handling other clerical duties as assigned.Essential Job Functions Supervises bus operators in the performance of their duties.Ensure safe operation of vehicles by performing road supervision and on-board performance reviews and identifies areas for re-training.Assists with training program, including conducting training courses.Receives operator input and transmits suggestions, comments, and ideas to the appropriate person.Monitors operators conduct and performance daily to ensure compliance with company policies, applying disciplinary action when required. Conducts on-time performance checks daily.Assist drivers in handling all situations on a daily basis. Reports operational problem areas.Investigates accidents and assists in getting service back in operation.Assist operators and authorities on accident scene when possible.Advises office, operators and others of action taken at accident scene to get service back in operation.Determines root cause of accidents and incidents in order to provide training and/or policy improvements.Assist in inclement weather operations.III. Corrects minor operational problems on the scene.Redirects late buses when necessary.Relays assignment changes to operators as needed.Responds to emergencies involving employees and/or passengers. Monitors bus stop signing program.Maintains record of damaged signs for reinstallation.Evaluates need for new or relocated bus stop signs as appropriate. Reviews vehicle servicing operations on evening shiftChecks to make sure that the vehicles are properly cleaned inside and out until the end of the shift daily.Prepares written documentation as to vehicle cleanliness for Operations Manager.Acts as dispatcher as needed.Assist customers with trip planning and scheduling based on: a) their physical condition, b) the unique features of the route system (including off-route scheduling) and transit-on-call and c) detailed working knowledge of the location of streets, roads, and highways and the geographical conditions of the service area.Assess the clients needs and handles scheduling, confirmation, and cancellation of trips from daily requests as well as pre-booked standing orders. Group service requests into the most efficient tours in order to prevent redundancies and make the best use of all vehicles. Meet and/or exceed ETD customer service and dispatching standards and assist the Operations Manager to respond to road call emergences and vehicle accidents; assist in meeting ETDs vehicle emergency service standards. Operate the buses in service in an emergency.Ensure that vehicle service hour records (including driver manifest reports and logs) are accurate and up to date. Manage the direct collection of all fares and ensure that the cash collection and reconciliation meet the standards established by the District.Performs other duties as assigned.RequirementsAbility to supervise employees, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Demonstrated ability to manage and supervise drivers, customer service personnel, and dispatchers.Working knowledge of the business and operational aspects of running a shuttle-based public transportation system. Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations, protocols, and/or procedures. Working knowledge of the location of streets, roads, and highways and the geographical conditions of the service area.Demonstrated customer service skills and ability to meet multiple deadlines.Ability to gather data, to compile information, and prepare reports. Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures.Connecticut Drivers License and Public service license, CDL class B with airbrakes and P endorsement.Ability to type necessary reports, forms, and correspondence as needed.Ability to pass a DOT drug and alcohol test and DOT physical.Ability to communicate the features of each service [route services (including off-route stops) and transit on call] to the general public.Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with drivers, human service agencies, and the general public.Good oral and written communication skills Basic knowledge of computer skills, including ability to use scheduling software and Microsoft Office.Note: this job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
