Overview
We are seeking an experienced Data Dashboard Developer to support data visualization and analytics initiatives for a State Agency. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working with natural resources–related departments such as Water Resources, Parks & Recreation, Fish & Wildlife, Forestry, Conservation, or Environmental Protection. This position focuses on developing web-based dashboards and analytical tools using R programming, SQL Server, and Esri technologies.

This position focuses on developing web-based dashboards and analytical tools using R programming, SQL Server, and Esri technologies.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain interactive web-based dashboards that provide insights into environmental and natural resource datasets.
- Utilize R programming (including R Shiny) for data visualization, modeling, and reporting.
- Integrate and manage data from SQL Server databases, ensuring performance and accuracy of queries used in dashboards.
- Incorporate Esri ArcGIS tools and geospatial data layers into dashboards to support spatial analytics and mapping functions.
- Collaborate with program analysts, scientists, and data managers to understand requirements and translate them into actionable visual solutions.
- Support data quality assurance, documentation, and reproducibility of analytic workflows.
- Implement best practices for dashboard performance, scalability, and accessibility.
- Candidates will have at least 10-12 years working in Information Technology with a career focus in data and dashboard development. Experience must include previous experience with a State Agency, preferably in areas such as Natural Resources, Water, Land, Wildlife, Forestry, Parks & Recreation, or Conservation.
- Proficiency in R programming, including dashboard development frameworks (e.g., R Shiny, Flexdashboard).
- Strong experience with SQL Server — writing, optimizing, and managing complex queries and stored procedures.
- Hands-on experience using Esri ArcGIS products and integrating geospatial data into analytical workflows or visualizations.
- Demonstrated ability to build web-based dashboards and interactive analytics tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Experience with Python or SAS for data analysis and automation.
- Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and ETL processes.
- Understanding of environmental, conservation, or natural resource data domains.
- Knowledge of data governance, metadata management, and data sharing standards within government settings.
