Registered Nurse (RN) – Overnight Shift
Long-Term Care Facility: Estherville, Iowa
Position Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care to residents during overnight hours, ensuring safety, clinical stability, and continuity of care. The RN often serves as the charge nurse, overseeing staff and making independent clinical decisions in a low-support environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and monitor changes in resident condition
- Develop, implement, and update individualized care plans
- Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders
- Supervise and delegate tasks to LPNs and CNAs
- Respond to and manage emergencies (falls, acute illness, behavioral changes)
- Communicate with physicians, nurse practitioners, and on-call providers
- Complete admissions, discharges, and transfers as needed
- Ensure compliance with state, federal, and facility regulations
- Accurately document care, incidents, and interventions in EMR systems
Overnight Shift-Specific Duties
- Serve as charge nurse for the unit or entire facility
- Make independent clinical decisions with minimal supervision
- Conduct routine rounds and safety checks on all residents
- Manage acute changes in condition and initiate appropriate interventions
- Provide end-of-life and comfort care when needed
- Support and guide overnight staff during incidents or staffing shortages
- Prepare detailed shift reports for day shift handoff
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Iowa)
- Current CPR/BLS certification
- Experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, or geriatrics preferred
- Strong clinical judgment and leadership skills
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
Work Environment
- Overnight hours 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM
- Responsible for multiple residents and overall unit operations
- Reduced staffing levels increased responsibility
