JOB SUMMARY:
The role of the Garber High School Counselor at Essexville-Hampton Public Schools is to help students prepare for academic achievement, ensure postsecondary readiness, and develop social-emotional skills.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess a Master’s degree in School Counseling from an accredited institution AND
- Possess a valid Michigan secondary teaching certificate with an endorsement in counseling (NT), OR
- Possess a School Counselor License, OR
- Possess a Preliminary Authorization to work as a School Counselor, OR
- Possess a Temporary School Counselor Authorization
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Monitor students’ Educational Development Plans and provide academic planning, including course selection, graduation progress monitoring, and post-secondary advising.
- Form partnerships with district staff and community agencies to connect students with resources and support systems that promote their academic, social/emotional, and postsecondary success.
- Facilitate career development activities, including exploration, goal-setting, and connection to CTE, dual enrollment, and work-based learning opportunities.
- Collect, analyze, and use student data to identify needs, close achievement/opportunity gaps, and evaluate program effectiveness.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to improve student success and create a positive school climate.
- Coordinate schoolwide assessments, including PSAT, SAT, and M-STEP.
- Assist with crisis response within the scope of the school counseling role, including student safety protocols, brief supportive interventions, and collaboration with the school mental health counselor and administrative team.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and follow all ethical and legal guidelines established by the American School Counselor’s Association and the State of Michigan.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and contribute to schoolwide initiatives that promote equity and student well-being.
SALARY: Per Essexville-Hampton Education Association contract
