The Tool & Die Technician (CNC Focused) is responsible for maintaining, repairing, fabricating, and modifying tooling and dies used in manufacturing operations. This role places strong emphasis on CNC setup, operation, and program editing (G-code and M-code) to support precision manufacturing, improve tool performance, and minimize production downtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and troubleshoot CNC mills, lathes, and related machining equipment
- Edit, adjust, and optimize CNC programs, including G-code and M-code, to ensure quality and efficiency
- Perform preventive maintenance on tooling and dies to ensure optimal performance and longevity
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair tooling and die issues to minimize production downtime
- Fabricate new tooling and die components from engineering drawings and CAD models
- Modify existing tooling using CNC and manual machining equipment as required
- Verify dimensions and tolerances using precision measuring instruments
- Maintain machine offsets, tooling data, and program documentation
- Participate in cross-training to operate and support EDM equipment
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to support tooling improvements and process efficiency
- Document maintenance activities and maintain accurate tooling inventory records
- Adhere to all safety protocols and company standards while performing machining and repair tasks
- High school diploma or GED required; technical training in CNC machining or Tool & Die preferred
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in tool & die, CNC machining, or precision manufacturing
- Experience setting up and operating CNC mills and/or lathes
- Working knowledge of G-code and M-code programming and editing
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and CAD drawings
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments
- Knowledge of metalworking processes and materials
- Experience with common CNC controls and basic familiarity with CAD/CAM software
