Essex North Shore is seeking a new Manager of Transportation to start on or around October 1, 2025. The Manager of Transportation oversees the District’s transportation department and provides supervision and training to school bus drivers.

 

CORI, SORI and SAFIS required.

Manager of Transportation

 

FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT (FLSA) CLASSIFICATION: 

This position is classified as Exempt (Professional).

 

REPORTING STRUCTURE:

The Manager of Transportation reports to the Director of Business Operations.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Must have at least three years of management experience;
  2. Possess a CDL License with School Bus Driver and Passenger Endorsement;
  3. Possess a School Bus Instructor License; &
  4. Be able to organize work tasks efficiently and assign such tasks to the appropriate transportation department employees.

DUTIES:

  1. Recruits and trains bus drivers.
  2. Plans, schedules, and dispatches school bus routes for transporting students to and from school, as well as all additional student transportation for late buses, athletics, work projects, field trips, etc.
  3. Provides mandatory training for District school bus drivers and maintains the records of training.
  4. When necessary, serves as the Dispatcher and completes all daily dispatcher duties.
  5. Conducts an annual needs assessment of equipment; school transportation vehicles to be acquired, recommends buses, other required vehicles, and equipment for purchase necessary for maintaining a safe, adequate fleet.
  6. Schedules and supervises the maintenance and reconditioning of all student transport vehicles so that school-year operation is not interrupted; this includes ordering all necessary replacement parts to ensure that all vehicles are available for use.
  7. Contracts with private transportation companies, if indicated.
  8. Maintains records and completes the necessary forms for reporting mileage and student ridership data to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to ensure District eligibility for state reimbursement of transportation costs.
  9. Supervises and evaluates school bus drivers and transportation staff. 
  10. Maintains attendance records.
  11. Prepares, approves, and submits payroll to the Business Office.
  12. Prepares the annual budget for the Transportation Department and submits it to the Director of Business Operations.
  13. Accept additional responsibilities not inconsistent with the position when assigned by the Superintendent-Director or Director of Business Operations.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, working on a computer, and driving a school bus.  Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.  The position may require frequent in- and out-of-district travel.

 

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. This is a twelve-month administrative position.
  2. The nature of this position requires hours beyond the regular school day.  The Manager of Transportation will be available before and after school on days school is in session, as well as on evenings and weekends when buses are on the road for athletics or field trips.
  3. It is expected that the person filling this position will give priority to completing the necessary tasks and set hours accordingly.
  4. Salary and fringe benefits are established by the Superintendent-Director in accordance with the policies established by the School Committee.

Salary : $85,000 - $95,000
