The Essex Westford School District (EWSD) is seeking a dynamic and student-centered Student Activities Director to lead and oversee athletic, co-curricular, and extracurricular programs across grades 6–12.

Position Summary

The Student Activities Director provides strategic leadership, direction and administrative oversight for student athletic, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities, ensuring compliance with regulations, and fostering an environment of inclusivity and respect that promotes student leadership, enjoyment, physical skills, self-worth, competence, and an understanding of fair play, maximizing student participation and success. The Student Activities Director enhances student accountability in academics and behavior through consistent expectations and rule enforcement. Additionally, this role aims to increase student engagement and attendance at school activities, fostering a sense of pride and belonging.


The Student Activities Director shall ensure alignment of practices relative to athletics, extracurricular, and other co-curricular activities across our 6-12 schools, and ensure consistency of expectations for coaches, volunteers, advisors, and other support personnel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and align all student activity programs (athletics, clubs, co-curriculars) across grades 6–12
  • Supervise and evaluate coaches, advisors, and student activities staff
  • Ensure safe, well-managed events and compliance with all regulations
  • Promote student engagement, participation, and accountability
  • Address student conduct concerns related to activities, including HHB investigations
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, staff, and community partners
  • Oversee and coordinate equitable fundraising efforts
  • Support hiring, training, and development of coaches and advisors

Qualifications

  • Experience in athletic administration or student activities leadership 
  • Prior leadership and supervisory experience required; strong leadership and supervisory skills
  • Previous head coaching and/or athletic leadership experience required
  • Strong knowledge of student engagement, safety, and school-based programs
  • Expertise is working with family and community partners
  • Ability to build strong relationships with students, families, and staff
  • Valid VT educator license with an administrative endorsement preferred, but will consider strong athletic leadership experience in place of this endorsement
  • Valid driver’s license required

Supervision

Reports to the High School Principal with collaboration from Middle School Principals.

Salary : $116,856 - $140,226
