Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Institutional Effectiveness, Planning, and Assessment, the Director Institutional Research is responsible for the analysis and reporting of institutional data for both external mandated reporting and internal research to support decision-making.

Compensation: This position offers a competitive starting rate ranging from $80,000 - $85,000.

Supervisory Role

Oral and written instructions are received from the Executive Director of Institutional Effectiveness, Planning, and Assessment. Director - Institutional Research may supervise professional staff, support staff and student workers.

Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Serve as the College's IPEDS Keyholder to fulfill Federal reporting requirements and as the State SURE Coordinator to fulfill State reporting requirements.
  2. Coordinate and manage other external reporting requirements such as the Middle States
  3. Annual Institutional Update (AIU), VEDS file, and Institutional Profile Report.
  4. Utilize business intelligence tools and data visualization techniques to develop and maintain dynamic, online, interactive dashboards for both internal and external (public) use.
  5. Develop and disseminate weekly reporting dashboards such as a year - over-year admissions dashboard, a year-over-year enrollment dashboard, and a student credit hour budget dashboard.
  6. Serve as the Tableau administrator and provide appropriate training to stakeholders.
  7. Work with the Executive Director to expand the Office's analytic capacity by leveraging alternate data sources such as assessment data, survey data, and labor/earnings data.
  8. Work with the Executive Director, Enrollment Management, and Academic Affairs leadership to develop dashboards to aid in enrollment and retention efforts.
  9. Work with the Executive Director and Information Technology to develop and maintain an effective data infrastructure including daily data extracts, census files, data warehouses, and data dictionaries. Conduct analytics on prescribed research questions to support internal decision-making.
  10. Fulfill ad-hoc data requests to support educational research, professional and institutional accreditation efforts, grant support, and other strategic institutional initiatives.
  11. Support the student learning assessment initiatives such as General Education Assessment and Program Assessment within the Office, by providing data support to the Research Coordinator, and Senior Assessment Coordinator.
  12. Contribute to institutional assessment initiatives by providing data support to the Research Coordinator and Senior Assessment Coordinator for an annual cycle of student and employee surveys, including the use of the National Student Clearinghouse StudentTracker system.
  13. Support other evaluation and assessment initiatives such as the Student Evaluations of Faculty, the Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE), and the Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment (CLNA).
  14. Provide leadership to institutional committee assignments such as the Data Governance Committee and the Institutional Review Board.
  15. Represent the College on external committee assignments such as the N]CCC Institutional Research Affinity Group and the N]CCC Assessment Affinity Group.
  16. Handle and/or manage sensitive information and strict confidentiality must be adhered to at all times.
  17. Maintain strict confidentiality and security of student, staff, and client records.
  18. Prepare routine, special and ancillary reports as required.
  19. Perform other related duties as required.

Additional Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Experience (number of years), Knowledge and/or Abilities
  1. Master's degree.
  2. Experience as an IPEDS Keyholder.
  3. Experience serving as a Tableau developer and administrator.
  4. Experience working effectively with diverse academic, staff and student populations as well as external constituents.
  5. Research experience in higher education, preferably at the community college level.
  6. Proficient in a statistical programming language, preferably SAS, SQL, or SPSS.
  7. Experience in navigating and data mining complex databases.
  8. Excellent interpersonal skills.
  9. Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  10. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  11. Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.

Master's Degree

Licenses and Certifications (including e.g., CPR, first aid, driver's license, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

Experience (number of years), Knowledge and/or Abilities
  1. Master's degree in Educational Research~ Applied Mathematics, or related area.
  2. Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to plan, develop, and implement major operational activities.
  3. Strong quantitative and statistical modeling skills.
  4. Experience as an NJ SURE Coordinator.
  5. Experience using online survey platforms such as Qualtrics.
  6. Experience using the National Student Clearinghouse StudentTracker system.
