What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animation Instructor + Ceramic Instructor position at Essex Art Center?
Essex Art Center is hiring! We are a community-based nonprofit based in Lawrence, Massachusetts focused on art education, community programming, and exhibitions of contemporary art. Founded in 1993, Essex Art Center inspires and sustains lifelong growth and learning for a diverse community of artists in Greater Lawrence. Our classes, events, and exhibitions harness the power of art to transform lives.
We are currently seeking part-time teaching artists for our July and August youth intensive programs. It is a weekly intensive: 9am-12pm and/or 1pm-4pm Monday through Friday. We are looking to offer 2 weeks between July 13, 2026 and August 21, 2026. Compensation is $35/hour.
Responsibilities:
- Develop curriculum for youth ages 5-12 in either digital arts or ceramics that includes engaging and age-appropriate activities for students
- Incorporate gallery exhibitions at Essex Art Center into curriculum
- Consider art techniques, art history, art theory, and aesthetics
- Facilitate discussions where students have an opportunity to talk about their own artwork and their peers’ artwork in a constructive and thoughtful manner
- Meet with Director of Education to review curriculum and materials
Qualifications
- Experience teaching and creating curriculum for youth (at least two years experience preferred)
- Ability to create lesson plans that consider diverse learning styles
- Knowledge of inclusive and effective classroom management strategies
- Outstanding communication and organizational skills
- Punctual, reliable, and able to commit to a set schedule
- Compassion, sensitivity, and enthusiasm for working with youth in the arts
- Comply with CORI background check
- Fluency in both English and Spanish is preferred
