Position OverviewWe are seeking a Systems Engineer / QA Test & Installation Specialist to support Cubic Transportation Systems' FEnX faregate testing and installation effort. This hands-on role combines quality assurance testing with hardware installation, device configuration, and network validation at transit stations in the San Diego region. The ideal candidate will have experience with transit fare collection systems, firmware diagnostics, and field installation work.Scope of Work• Support FEnX testing and installation effort for fare collection systems• Execute pre-built TestRail test cases and validate software/hardware integration• Perform device configuration, firmware loading, and onsite hardware verification• Identify, document, and retest defects in collaboration with engineering• Provide daily execution summaries and final completion reports• Support installation punch lists, network validation, and device readiness checksCore Tech StackAFC & Fare Collection Systems• FEnX, NextCity, validators, gates, TVMs• Fare device firmware tools and diagnostic utilities• Back-office transaction systems, API logs, device communication protocolsTesting & QA Tools• TestRail (required)• Jira, Azure DevOps, or ServiceNow for defect management• Confluence for documentation• Git/GitHub/Bitbucket for configuration reviewHardware & Network Tools• Linux/Windows diagnostics• Wireshark / packet capture utilities• Serial/Ethernet communication validation• OEM device provisioning tools• Multimeters and electrical verification toolsRequired Qualifications• Experience testing and validating fare-collection systems or similar transactional hardware• Strong functional, regression, and integration testing ability• Firmware loading, device configuration, and hardware validation experience• Low-voltage installation familiarity (Cat5/6, power, grounding)• Ability to read installation diagrams and diagnose field issues• Strong documentation and reporting discipline• Experience in transit, AFC, or industrial technical environmentsPreferred Qualifications• Direct experience with Cubic systems (FEnX, NextCity, Umo)• Familiarity with contactless payment technologies (NFC, EMV, mobile wallets)• Network troubleshooting and packet analysis experience• ISTQB or similar QA certificationDeliverables• Daily execution status summaries• Defect logs with detailed reproduction steps and retest confirmations• Installation punch list and hardware verification checklist• Final Test Completion Summary ReportCompensation & SchedulePay Rate: $45 – $70 per hour (DOE)Duration: December 2025 – February 2026 (Contract)Schedule: Monday – Friday, Day Shift (exact hours TBD)Location: San Diego, CA – On-site at transit facilitiesAbout Cubic Transportation SystemsCubic Transportation Systems is a global leader in public transport payment and information solutions, providing automated fare collection systems to transit agencies worldwide.
