About the Role:

As a Traffic Detection Systems Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of traffic detection and control systems that manage vehicular flow and enhance road safety. Your work will directly impact the reliability of traffic signals, sensors, and related infrastructure, contributing to smoother traffic management and reduced congestion. You will be responsible for installing, troubleshooting, and repairing various detection technologies such as inductive loop detectors, radar, and video detection systems. This role requires a strong technical aptitude combined with problem-solving skills to quickly diagnose and resolve system malfunctions. Ultimately, your efforts will support safer and more efficient transportation networks within the communities served.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical training or certification in electronics, electrical systems, or a related field.
  • Experience with installation and maintenance of electronic or traffic control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, schematics, and manuals.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or higher in electronics, electrical engineering technology, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working with traffic management systems or intelligent transportation systems (ITS).
  • Familiarity with network communications and software used in traffic detection systems.
  • Certification in traffic signal maintenance or related professional credentials.
  • Experience using diagnostic tools and software for system analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, calibrate, and maintain traffic detection equipment including loop detectors, radar sensors, and video detection systems.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure optimal system performance and minimize downtime.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware and software issues related to traffic detection systems, implementing timely repairs or replacements.
  • Collaborate with traffic engineers and other stakeholders to optimize system configurations and support traffic management objectives.
  • Document all maintenance activities, system changes, and incident reports accurately for compliance and operational records.

Skills:

The required skills enable the technician to effectively install and maintain complex traffic detection hardware, ensuring systems operate reliably under various conditions. Troubleshooting skills are essential for quickly identifying faults and implementing corrective actions to minimize traffic disruptions. Technical reading and interpretation skills allow the technician to understand detailed schematics and manuals, facilitating accurate repairs and system adjustments. Preferred skills such as knowledge of network communications and software enhance the ability to integrate detection systems with broader traffic management platforms. Strong communication and documentation skills ensure clear reporting and collaboration with engineers and other team members, supporting continuous system improvement.
