Job Duties
In addition to fulfilling all responsibilities associated with the Network Installer (NI) classification, the Network Technician is responsible for the following:
- Plan job layouts and prepare materials prior to installation activities.
- Perform both overhead and underground layout and rough-in work.
- Terminate a wide range of copper cabling, including coaxial, multi-pair, and Category 3 through Category 6 cable.
- Measure, cut, bend, assemble, and install cable tray systems using appropriate hand tools and measuring instruments.
- Assemble and install relay racks, network cabinets, wall fields, and related hardware.
- Install and terminate fiber optic cabling of all types.
- Complete structured cabling installations in both new construction and existing facilities by interpreting diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
- Properly set up, operate, and maintain copper and fiber optic testing equipment.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues within structured cabling systems.
- Safely operate hand tools and equipment required to complete assigned tasks.
- Perform additional project-related duties as directed by the supervisor.
- Maintain regular attendance and follow established procedures for reporting lateness or absences.
Requirements
- Basic mechanical aptitude with strong mathematical and English communication skills.
- Working knowledge of fundamental communications theory and its practical application in installation environments.
- Ability to work occasional overtime as project needs require.
- Valid driver’s license and access to reliable personal transportation.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of hands-on communications experience, with demonstrated competency at the Network Technician level.
