JOB DESCRIPTION
The director of information technology, under the direction of the executive director, will develop, implement, direct, review, and evaluate the programs and activities in the Information Technology Department relating to data management, multiple site computing and network resources, and the use of electronic equipment, software, and computer peripherals. The director of information technology will uphold the mission and values established by American Heritage Charter Schools and place the safety and well being of students above all other issues.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
● Plan and direct the activities in the Information Technology Department relating to: the development, implementation, management, and on-going evaluation of the organization-wide network infrastructure, telephony, voicemail, video, and data communications ● Provide for cabling, network configuration, file server configuration, setup and troubleshooting as necessary
● Direct the development and maintenance of all data systems, including feasibility
studies, systems analysis and design, computer programming, conversion of data,
information storage, and retrieval management data controls
● Oversee the organization-wide administrative, human resources, financial, and student
information systems
● Provide for application training to end-users and technical training for technicians in the
areas of computer hardware, peripherals, and software
● Oversee, develop, and implement systems which provide information sharing and data
integration within AHCS and between other educational facilities, outside agencies, the
state of California and the federal government
● As needed, perform a variety of operational services, including installation of equipment,
● network support, and user support.
● Establish organization-wide policies, standards, practices, and security measures to
assure the integrity and reliability of computerized information, communications, and
systems
● Develop, implement, and maintain disaster recovery and physical security procedures
● Ensure that information technology security, training, programming, data collection, and
report generation activities meet the needs of AHCS and its educational and business
operations
● Meet and consult with school administrators on the development, maintenance, and
effectiveness of data applications
● Develop and maintain effective communication and working relationships with all AHCS
school sites
● Assist in the development and maintenance of the AHCS technology plan
● Plan and develop department goals and objectives to ensure that the technology-related
mission and goals of AHCS are realized.
● Evaluate plan effectiveness, time lines, and employee performance
● Review and evaluate products, methods, and procedures
● Forecast needs and requirements
● Evaluate, negotiate, and aid in the writing of bid specifications for the development
and/or purchase of all administrative hardware and software solutions.
● Develop and administer the information technology budget and AHCS technology plan
budgets
● Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff
● Interview and select employees and recommend transfers, reassignment, termination
and disciplinary actions
● Plan, coordinate and arrange for appropriate training of subordinates
● Manage information technology projects funded through various sources
● Create and maintain network configuration standards, specifications, and guidelines to
be followed by all Information Technology employees
● Ensure all network-connected device monitoring sensors are online and operational at
all times to support the helpdesk
● Proactively maintain all deployed network equipment such as switches, wireless
controllers, routers, wireless access points, firewalls, VPN concentrators, web filters, and
intrusion prevention systems, to ensure secure and uninterrupted access to network
resources.
● Review specifications and translate these specifications into access policies, filter
settings, and network configuration changes to effectively meet the school’s goals
● Design, test, implement, secure, and document all network systems for use by
authorized groups and individuals
● Maintain lists and reports on school technology assets
● Keep all monitoring software collection points and configuration up-to-date and available
for use by technology staff
● Maintain firewall, VPN, and intrusion logs
● Periodically verify network configurations, security, system health, performance, and
utilization trends, and make actionable recommendations to the executive director
● Take swift action on network-based security events reported by monitoring tools
● Coordinate UPS battery replacements with users and the technical team
● Plan for growth and support for future needs
● Document processes, software and hardware installation and upgrades, and schedule
regular maintenance
● Create and maintain server configuration standards, specifications, and guidelines to be
● followed by all information technology employees
● Ensure all system and application monitoring sensors are online and operational at all
times to support the helpdesk
● Assist computer leads in interpreting, diagnosing, and taking action on system
exceptions
● Proactively maintain all deployed site servers, Active Directory databases, and network
services such as DNS, DHCP, LDAP, SMB, to ensure uninterrupted access by the user
community
● Review specifications and translate these specifications into group policies,
organizational structures, and/or security groups to effectively meet the school’s goals.
● Design, test, implement, secure, and document all server instances for use by
authorized groups and individuals
● Periodically verify file permissions, usage, and replication status, account and file aging,
server security, performance and utilization trends, and make actionable
recommendations to the executive director
● Take swift action on server-based security events reported by monitoring tools.
● Troubleshoot complex server-based issues and regularly meet with computer leads to
coordinate system changes and schedule outage windows
● Configure, monitor, and test all backups to ensure data integrity in case of power failure,
equipment malfunction, natural disaster, system error, or theft
● Support the administration of all enterprise systems including the student information
system (SIS), Oracle and Microsoft database systems, Active Directory, and school file
shares
● Plan for growth and support for future needs
