The Fleet Transport Driver position transports fire apparatus to and from repair facilities and performs quality assurance checks on the equipment after repairs and maintenance have been completed.


This position also provides support as a storekeeper that performs daily warehouse activities.


This is a "mandatory-testing" position that requires Drug Testing.


EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Assists in transporting fire apparatus to and from repair facilities


Perform quality assurance checks on apparatus after repairs and maintenance have been completed


Keeps an accurate log of daily deliveries and pickups


Establishes an efficient route of delivery


Operates the delivery transport vehicle in a safe manner


Performs daily warehouse duties, including supplies receipt and distribution and inventories and inventory control activities


Prepares and maintains a variety of records related to warehouse activities


Assists in maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of facilities


Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.


TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualification Requirements:


Training and Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.), up to one year of experience in driving, operating, and pumping fire apparatus and up to one year of warehouse, inventory control, and/or customer service experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.


Licenses and Certifications:

Valid Driver's License


Preferred Qualifications:

Valid Commercial Driver's License


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics (KSAO's):

fire truck driving and operations

pump operations

mechanical principles and practices

preventive maintenance practices

automotive servicing principles and practices

utilizing applicable tools and equipment of the trade

performing preventive maintenance activities

maintaining basic records

communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction

maintain a professional attitude, conduct, and appearance.

Emergency Management Responsibilities:

During emergency conditions, the incumbent of this position will automatically be considered an emergency service worker. This employee is subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and is expected to perform emergency service duties as assigned.


Physical Requirements:

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, finger and hand dexterity, as well as repetitive motions

Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to fumes, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises and travel.
