This class is a working supervisor who organizes, monitors, and reviews the work of one or more crews of skilled and semi-skilled personnel engaged in road construction and maintenance or constructing or repairing County drainage structures.
This is a "mandatory-testing" position that requires Drug Testing.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Supervises staff by prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, ensuring staff are trained and following policies and procedures, maintaining a healthy and safe working environment, and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations
Monitors project progress by reviewing and prioritizing work orders, assigning and reviewing projects with work crews, inspecting completed jobs, and ensuring job sites are set up safely
Prepares, reviews, and maintains a variety of reports, logs, and records related to daily activities
Reviews a variety of blueprints, maps, and/or other related technical documents to identify required work
Receives and responds to concerns, requests for information, public speaking events, and/or complaints from a variety of individuals; conducts related investigations and develops solutions to resolve issues
Procures, monitors, and maintains inventory, materials, special equipment, and supplies to ensure the effective and/or efficient operations of the unit
Participates in installing and inspecting road signage, elevations, pipe work, holding ponds, and/or other related road construction items to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and guidelines
Participates in and/or coordinates a variety of meetings, training sessions, and/or other related events
Performs other duties as assigned
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Training and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and up to one year of specialized or technical training beyond high school and at least three years of progressively responsible experience as an equipment operator or road construction worker, with at least one year in a lead worker or supervisory role; or a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid driver's license from state of residence
Preferred Qualifications:
Valid Class A commercial driver's license

Emergency Management Responsibilities:
During emergency conditions, the incumbent of this position will automatically be considered an emergency service worker. This employee is subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and is expected to perform emergency service duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, talking, hearing, seeing, finger and hand dexterity as well as repetitive motions.
Medium Work: Exerting in excess of 35 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects.
Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises and travel.
