This class provides technical information and assistance regarding the conservation of natural resources or administers hazardous waste shipments.


This is a "mandatory-testing" position that requires Drug Testing.


EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Participates in field assessments to determine levels of potentially harmful or adverse environmental conditions, horticulture, and/or hazardous waste, which involves: gathering physical data; conducting observations and making applicable field notes; collecting samples; performing community surveys; and/or, performing other related activities


Educates, guides, and directs property owners and residents on applicable practices designed to prevent applicable adverse environmental conditions in compliance with applicable regulations and laws


Prepares and maintains a variety of logs, plans, reports, and/or other related written documents in assigned area of responsibility


Responds to inquiries and concerns from interested parties regarding natural resource conservation or hazardous waste issues


Participates in preparing for and facilitating education sessions for the public


Performs other duties of a similar nature or level


Positions assigned to Water Quality & Land Management Division may be responsible for:

collecting groundwater and surface water samples using recognized Standard Operating Procedures


preparing equipment and supplies for field work and laboratory work


preparing water and sediment samples for analysis


operation and calibration of field equipment and laboratory equipment


operation of laboratory equipment including nutrient analyzer and ICP


performing fecal coliform bacteria analyses of water samples


operation of vehicles and boats with trailers


maintaining maintenance logs for boats and vehicles


participating in environmental education and outreach activities such as Bay Day and Earth Day


TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualification Requirements:


Training and Experience:

Associate Degree or two-year technical certificate in an environmental, solid waste management, or conservation related field and up to one year of work experience in an environmental related field; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.


Licenses and Certifications:

Valid Driver's License


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics (KSAOs):

using a computer and related software applications

using applicable tools and equipment of the trade

Emergency Management Responsibilities:

During emergency conditions, the incumbent of this position will automatically be considered an emergency service worker. This employee is subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and is expected to perform emergency service duties as assigned.


Physical Requirements:

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to dusts, extreme temperatures, and travel.
