JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Director of Maintenance, Operations, and Transportation, operates a designated district vehicle to transport a maximum of nine student passengers; assists in the loading/ unloading of passengers, including students with special needs; assists in keeping assigned vehicle in a clean and orderly condition; does related work as required. In accordance with established routes, time schedules, and district policies and procedures; maintains assigned vehicles in a safe and clean condition.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION
Responsibility to:- Drive a passenger vehicle for a designated route in accordance with time schedules; operate a two-way radio to maintain communication with the district office dispatcher.
- Pick up, discharge children, and provide personal mobility assistance, including the loading and unloading of students.
- Supervise students' conduct on passenger vehicles to assure a safe and positive learning environment; follow district policy regarding student behavior, report concerns and student disciplinary problems to the school office.
- Maintain a variety of records, including mileage, routing, maintenance, and time schedules.
- Drives a district car or vehicle to designated routes at scheduled times and/or for special events for students to and from a primary residence and/or to a designated location.
- Secures seat belts, car seats, securement devices, and windows to ensure the safety of student transportation
- Reports and completes required documentation for reporting all accidents, incidents, and follow-up and/or offer input on proper procedures
- Follow district policies by establishing and maintaining a daily record of assigned routes, vehicle operation maintains lists of student passengers, and tracking route times and miles
- Conduct pre-trip inspections as required by California Law and regulations, prior to operation of assigned vehicle in the transporting of students; completes daily reports on the inspection, condition, and operation of vehicle and records, reports any mechanical or other defects to the appropriate person, supervisor, mechanic complete required work order
10. Perform minor first aid as required
11. At the direction of the assigned supervisor, conducts annual vehicle evacuation drill to be compliant with the California Education Code and the California Department of Motor Vehicles
12. Review route changes, passenger changes, safety hazards, or incidents with supervisor or designee as needed to receive a recommended action plan
13. Participates in mandatory meetings and training provided by transportation and/or special education department for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving skills/knowledge
14. Possession of a valid California driver’s license, Class C.
15. Perform other related duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Skill to drive a motor vehicle safely and efficiently under stressful conditions 19. Knowledge of safe driving laws, regulations, and practices; routine vehicle maintenance requirements. 20. Safe driving practices; provisions of the California Motor Vehicle Code and the California Education Code applicable to the operation of vehicles transporting school students 24. Ability to read maps, follow directions; follow procedures for securing car seats, and installing child restraint systems 25. Management techniques, understand and address the need of students with special needs 26. Understand written procedures and ability to speak clearly 27. Maintain order among students, work effectively with students with all types of special needs as appropriate 28. Ensure students are safe and secure in the vehicle, using equipment as required 29. Recognize malfunctions in equipment and take appropriate action 30. Work independently, make decisions in potentially critical situations 31. Execute and develop plans for an emergency situation, ensuring the safety of all students 32. Ability to evacuate all students from the vehicle in case of an emergency 33. Maintain order among the students in the vehicleMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education/Experience:- High School Diploma or equivalent;
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Having a satisfactory driving record consistent in accordance with the law
- Complies with District, State and/or Federal guidelines for drug and alcohol testing of school bus drivers
- Current and Valid California Driver’s Class “C” License
- Current First Aid within 6 months of hire date
- One (1) year of general driving experience
- Have passed a physical examination, been fingerprinted, and have fulfilled all other requirements, including first aid and actual driving test in accordance with the law
