LIBRARY MEDIA/LEARNING CENTER SPECIALIST
JOB SUMMARY
Under supervision of the site administrator, performs clerical functions related to the acquisition, processing, cataloging, storage, circulation, and recovery of library and traditional reference books, textbooks, and other curricular materials. Encourages the use of the library/media center; Works with certificated staff to enhance the achievement of learning and curricular objectives. Do other related work as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION
May include, but not limited to:
1. Receive, process, classify, catalogue, and shelve of library books, periodicals, and other instructional materials.
2. Participates in maintaining an automated circulation and distribution system.
3. Aids in preparing and maintaining a variety of files and records, including shelf and storage lists and records, cataloguing system, and other files and records.
4. Collect and circulate library books, periodicals, and instructional media.
5. Locate materials for classroom use; assists students in locating materials pertaining to specific subject matter areas; works with teachers to provide instruction in use of library materials and resources.
6. Monitor student behavior in the library at break times, for testing, or when sitting out of classroom activities.
7. Provides direction and assistance to student library assistants and parent volunteers.
8. Develops and maintain interesting center displays and bulletin boards; keeps library area neat, attractive and appealing to students and staff.
9. Assists in the preparation of requisitions and purchase orders, library books, and instructional materials.
10. Repair and mend damaged books and other instructional materials. Evaluate items to be discarded due to damage or disuse.
11. Send out bills, collect money, and maintain simple cash receipts records for lost or damaged books.
12. Provides information to teachers on available materials that will aid in the development of curriculum.
13. Schedule use of the library.
14. Participate in the maintenance of library website.
15. Check student electronic devices in and out. Assist the IT department with maintaining student devices by performing simple repairs, opening tech tickets, checking out loaner devices, and distributing repaired devices.
16. Assist in organizing and running the annual book fair(s).
17. Performs other duties as directed, consistent with the general areas of responsibility surrounding the job description.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge and Application of:
Modern office methods, practices, and equipment, including computers and computer terminals;
English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation; Library media/learning center classification systems; Basic arithmetical concepts; Student behavior management strategies and techniques; Standard library reference sources, books, and other library related materials; Electronic reference resources, including computer software, CD-ROMs, and the Internet.
Ability to:
- Perform library clerical functions, including circulation and distribution functions.
- Maintain a variety of records and filing systems pertaining to a library media center.
- Utilize computers to assist students and staff in research activities, utilizing a variety of reference resource guides, traditional and electronic.
- Access, utilize, and teach the use of the Internet as a curriculum resource.
- Communicate effectively in oral and written form.
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
- Frequently lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
