Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) - 2 positions 

26-27 School Year

188 Contract Days

Location: Cardinal Autism Resource Educational School (CARES) with Mentor Public Schools

Hours: 8:00 am - 3:30 pm

  • Experience working directly with students on the autism spectrum, including students with complex communication needs
  • Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience with Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems and programs, including high-tech and low-tech communication supports
  • Familiarity with a variety of AAC platforms and applications such as Proloquo2Go, TouchChat, LAMP Words for Life, TD Snap, PECS, and other communication systems
  • Strong understanding of evidence-based practices and innovative instructional strategies for supporting autistic students in educational environments
  • Ability to develop individualized communication systems and sensory-supportive strategies that promote student independence and functional communication
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including teachers, occupational therapists, behavior specialists, intervention specialists, and families
  • Knowledge and experience in writing and implementing IEP goals, progress monitoring, and documenting student growth
  • Experience completing ETR evaluations, speech and language assessments, and contributing to eligibility determination meetings
  • Ability to analyze student data and use data-driven decision making to guide interventions and communication supports
  • Experience providing direct instruction in social communication, functional language, self-advocacy, and pragmatic language skills
  • Strong understanding of behavior supports, visual supports, structured teaching, and communication strategies for students with varying support needs
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with emerging research, AAC technologies, and innovative practices in autism education
  • Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills in a school-based setting
  • Ability to create a positive, student-centered learning environment that supports communication growth and independence

Minimum Qualifications: 

Minimum requirements are used to establish clear and appropriate eligibility standards for the specific position. 

  • High school diploma, college education or degree, certification endorsement.
  • Maintain a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
  • Participate (and pass where applicable) in all required training, including but not limited to: Vehicle Safety, First Aid,  CPR, Crisis Intervention, Blood Borne Pathogens, and others deemed appropriate for the position.
  • Comply with drug-free workplace rules and board policies.
  • Embody high ethical standards and integrity. Accept responsibility for decisions and conduct.
  • Adhere to Educational Service Center (ESC) Governing Board policies/administrative guidelines/staff  handbook, policies of the assigned worksite, and to the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio  Educators.
  • Secure and maintain appropriate licensures required.
  • Promote the proper use, care, and security of Educational Service Center (ESC) property. Report misconduct,  vandalism, equipment malfunctions, and other concerns.
  • Advance the professional image of the service center and affiliated school districts.
  • Establish professional relationships with coworkers and function as a part of a cohesive team.
  • Commitment to keep current with workplace innovations that enhance personal productivity.
  • Exhibit consistent, impartial, and resourceful critical-thinking skills.
  • Proficient in office protocols, data entry, spelling, proofreading, and the correct use of grammar.
  • Demonstrate dependability/flexibility and react positively to interruptions/emerging priorities.
  • Give thorough attention to detail and effective customer service.
  • Maintain an acceptable attendance record and is punctual.
  • Report suspected child abuse and/or neglect to supervisor and/or civil authorities as required by law.
  • Cross-train with other staff, participate in meetings, and attend professional development in-services.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information relating to students.  

Working Conditions: 

Promote safety, exercise caution, and comply with safety regulations and service center policies/procedures when involved in the following situations/conditions. 

  • Risk of exposure to blood-borne pathogens, bodily fluids, and/or communicable diseases.
  • Risk of exposure to air-borne particulates, chemical irritants, combustible materials, electrical  hazards, equipment vibrations, noises, and odors. Exposure to wet or slippery surfaces.
  • Exposure to adverse weather conditions and temperature extremes.
  • Balancing, bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, and standing.
  • Lifting, carrying, and moving work-related supplies and/or equipment.
  • Must have the ability to occasionally move up to 50 lbs.
  • Operate and/or ride in a vehicle.
  • Work at various heights, in confined spaces, and/or invariable/diminished lighting.
  • Work in proximity to moving mechanical parts.
  • Report misconduct or violations of policy and procedures to the direct supervisor and/or another  administrator.
  • Travel to meetings and work assignments.
