Primary Purpose

To support the vision, mission, and strategic priorities of ESC Region 12. The Accelerated Improvement Strategist provides expert technical assistance and leadership to support school improvement efforts in accordance with state and federal requirements.


Qualifications

Education/Certification

  • Master’s Degree in Education or a related field
  • Current Texas administrative certificate
  • Successful school turnaround experience as a campus administrator (preferred)

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Knowledge of federal and state school improvement requirements
  • Knowledge of the principles of school turnaround, turnaround leadership, and current educational research in school improvement, and the ability to quickly apply them, as appropriate, at the district/campus level
  • Ability to accurately analyze data and assess systems to identify root causes of low performance
  • Knowledge of systematic planning practices, program evaluation, and district operations
  • Oral communication skills that engage district/campus leadership in reflective dialogue
  • Coaching skills that demonstrate active listening, reflective questioning, and full engagement
  • Understanding district perspectives on organizational structure, communication, and collaboration across work groups to support and leverage campus success
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-focused environment with multiple groups ? Ability to influence stakeholders in a results-oriented way so campus, district leadership, and ESC personnel collaborate to ensure successful outcomes that meet or exceed state requirements
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Technical writing skills that capture evidence in a clear, concise, and objective manner
  • Proficient in the use of technology to support all job requirements


General Responsibilities

  • Provide expert technical assistance in accordance with School Improvement requirements and efforts
  • Ensures that the campus is consistently engaging in interventions: developing a plan and implementing the plan with fidelity
  • Exemplifies the trustworthiness and integrity necessary to lead adults and model core values regarding confidentiality, punctuality, work focus, and quality of product
  • Serves as a liaison between the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the District Coordinator of School Improvement (DCSI)
  • Serves as a member of the campus intervention team
  • Ensures effective implementation of the school improvement process and works with DCSI on required interventions and submissions
  • Works with district and campus staff to ensure an understanding of the current accountability system. Maintains a positive problem-solving attitude and acts as a positive change agent
  • Seeks out and is responsible for personal, ongoing professional learning, and attends all required trainings outlined by the Education Service Center and TEA.

Security Requirements

All positions at ESC 12 are defined as security-sensitive. Security-sensitive positions are those which require employees to be entrusted with certain types of data, whether electronic or in paper form. Those data elements, as defined by the ESC 12 Data Classification and Handling Policy may include, but not limited to:

  • Sensitive Personal Information (SPI)
  • Personally, Identifiable Information (PII)
  • Protected Health Information (PHI)
  • Family Educational Records (FERPA Data)
  • Federal Tax Information (FTI)


All employees must adhere to all security-related policies, standards, and procedures. This includes actively safeguarding data and immediately reporting any suspected loss or theft.

Travel

  • Travel within the region, state, and nation when appropriate

  • Standard office equipment, including a personal computer and peripherals

  • Prolonged sitting, occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

  • Repetitive hand motions, including frequent keyboarding and use of a mouse; occasional reaching

Lifting

  • Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)

Environment

  • May work prolonged or irregular hours, frequent regional travel, occasional statewide travel, and out-of-state travel

Mental Demands

  • Manage multiple tasks and work cooperatively with others,
  • Maintain a calm attitude in demanding situations,
  • Make changes and adapt to various responsibilities on an ongoing basis, and
  • Work with frequent interruptions, tight deadlines, and limited office space.


Benefit Information

  • ESC Region 12 provides a monetary contribution up to $575 per month to use for employee/family healthcare and supplemental benefits.
  • Employee earns state personal, sick, and vacation leave.
  • All employees contribute to both the Teachers' Retirement System (TRS) and the Social Security retirement programs
