Job Overview
Erskine’s Grain & Garden has been a family-run fixture in Chester Depot since 1952. Knowledgeable, friendly and helpful service are hallmarks of the store, and a can-do attitude is essential.
We’re looking for an outgoing, people-oriented individual to join our team, continuing the tradition of helping our customers cultivate their homestead lifestyle. Enthusiasm for and/or knowledge of farming, gardening, animal care, sugaring, fencing – anything adjacent to our inventory is desired, but we are always willing to train the right candidate. Must be at least 16 years of age.
Duties
- Greet customers warmly and assist them in selecting the products they need.
- Operate POS (Point of Sale) systems accurately
- Stock shelves efficiently, organize merchandise displays, and ensure the store remains clean and inviting
- Support merchandising efforts by arranging products attractively and ensuring proper signage is in place
- Assist customers over the phone with product inquiries or order placements using strong communication skills
- Support inventory management through stocking, inventory counts, and organizing supplies in warehouse spaces for easy access
Experience
- Previous retail sales experience in a garden center, farm, pet or hardware store is preferred but not required; enthusiasm for animals, farming, gardening and outdoor work is essential
- Familiarity with POS systems, cash handling procedures, and retail math ensures smooth transaction processing
- Real-life experience with farming, gardening, landscaping and other outdoor work can be very helpful
- Organizational skills for stocking shelves and merchandising are important for maintaining an attractive store environment
Hourly wage: Starts at $17/hour. Knowledge of products, experience and additional responsibilities may increase wages.
Current open shifts are Mondays & Fridays, 8am to 5pm and Saturdays 8am to 3pm.
