Work Schedule:

Sunday - Saturday, 12-hours shift Days or Nights Rotational, 6 days and 6 nights

Job Specific Details and Tasks:

Core Professional Duties

· Nursing Process: Utilize the nursing process (Assessment, Diagnosis, Planning, Implementation, Evaluation) as the basis for all professional practice. This includes performing comprehensive patient assessments to distinguish between normal and abnormal findings, incorporating principles of growth and development for infants, children, and adolescents. Developing care plans and evaluating the effectiveness of all interventions.

· Documentation: Perform accurate, timely, and complete documentation of all patient care, assessments, education, medication administration, and interventions in the electronic health record, including acknowledging and executing physician orders in a timely manner. Chart reviews shall be performed in accordance with unit and MTF policies.

· Patient & Family Education: Assess the learning needs of patients and their families. Develop and implement a plan of instruction and document the demonstrated level of understanding. Effectively educate them on the plan of care, management of symptoms, and preventative or follow-up care, ensuring they are involved in the decision-making process.

· Team Collaboration: Formulate and use effective working relationships with all members of the healthcare team. Communicate pertinent patient data clearly and professionally, using the established lines of authority, consult other services as appropriate. Participate in daily multi-disciplinary rounds.

· Emergency Response: Demonstrate the ability to recognize adverse signs and symptoms and react quickly and appropriately in pediatric emergency situations. Provide Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and serve as a member of the resuscitation team. Report critical lab or diagnostic results to the physician in a timely manner.

· Safety & Infection Control: Demonstrate and adhere to all MTF safety and infection control policies and procedures to maintain a clean, safe, and therapeutic working environment.

5.3.5. PICU Unit-Specific Clinical Duties

The contract RN shall perform the following unit-specific duties:

· Intensive Patient Care: Render professional intensive nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients with complex medical and/or surgical conditions.

· Advanced Monitoring: Care for patients with central venous catheters and arterial lines. Operate and interpret data from sophisticated equipment such as cardiac and hemodynamic monitors.

· Ventilator Management: Manage and provide intensive pulmonary care for patients requiring mechanical ventilation (Conventional, High frequency) and other forms of respiratory support.

· Pediatric Pharmacology: Demonstrate knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on the age and clinical condition of the patient. Safely administer a wide variety of rapid-acting, highly potent medications, including titrated intravenous drips, while closely monitoring patient response. The RN shall have knowledge of the desired effects, side effects, and complications of all commonly used pharmacological agents and provide associated patient education regarding medications.

· Post-Anesthesia & Procedural Care: Recover stable and unstable pediatric patients from general/regional anesthesia and deep sedation. Provide proper care and evaluation of post-procedural patients.

· Central Line Management: Provide care for patients with central lines, including PICCs, Broviacs, and port-a-catheters, which includes dressing changes and blood drawing.

· Advanced Nutrition & IV Access: Administer and continuously monitor Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) via peripheral and central lines (e.g. PICC, Broviac). Perform gavage feedings and monitor for feeding intolerance.

· Procedural Assistance: Assist physicians with special procedures including, but not limited to, intubation, chest tube insertion, and central line placement.

· Equipment Operation: Skillfully set up, operate, and monitor specialized medical equipment such as cardiac/apnea monitors, infusion pumps, and defibrillators, radiant warmers, blood glucose monitors, and pulse oximeters, and interpret the generated data.

· Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation: Identify gross changes in respiratory patterns and life-threatening arrhythmias as seen on the monitor and respond appropriately.

· Family-Centered & Psychosocial Care: Assess and address the psychological, social, cultural, and ethnic needs of patients and their families. Recognize and respond to signs of abuse or neglect according to MTF policy.

· Discharge Planning: Assess patient for readiness for discharge, ensuring all clinical and educational criteria are met.

Minimum Qualifications:

*5.3.1. Education

§ Degree/Education: Accredited School of Nursing (AD or BSN).

§ Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support: RN with a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Must have and maintain BLS, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - renewed every 2 years.

§ Licensure/Registration: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse.

Minimum Qualifications
The contract RN shall possess the following qualifications at all times during contract performance:

· Experience: Continuously employed in the practice of Registered Nurse for 3 years prior to start of work at the MTF, with at least 1 year as a full-time RN in a pediatric intensive care unit. Will consider applicants with a combined minimum of 2 years of neonatal ICU/pediatric ICU experience.

· Citizenship: Be a U.S. Citizen.

· Communication: Read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently to effectively communicate with patients, families, and all healthcare providers.

· Computer Skills: Demonstrate proficiency in basic computer operations, including word processing and data entry for automated medical records (e.g., MHS GENESIS).s.

* Security: Must possess ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.
