Plant Maintenance Assistant

A. Job Identification

Responsible for retaining or restoring equipment, machine, or systems to the specified operable condition to achieve its maximum life, including corrective and preventative maintenance to conserve as long as possible the original condition of an asset or resource while compensating for normal wear and tear. This position reports to the Plant Maintenance Manager.

B. Essential Job Functions

• Review the operations of plant equipment and systems constantly to minimize downtime, anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner and identify opportunities to improve equipment.
• Repair or replace any defective equipment to maintain proper operations of the plant using hand held tools.
• Monitor the use and inventory of spare parts, maintenance supplies and equipment and initiate reordering when necessary.
• Document use of spare parts and maintenance history of plants.
• Observe and make recommendations for improving plant operations and solving maintenance related issues.
• Perform maintenance and repairs in a safe, timely and cost-effective manner.
• Communicate with supervisor frequently through out the day to ensure all maintenance requirements are being met in a timely manner.
• Initiate and carry out projects to improve efficiencies and/or reduces operating costs.
• Assist with planning and implementing plant improvements and expansion.

C. Job Requirements

• Must be able to take orders, instructions, and guidance from supervisors and management.
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
• Must be able to do simple math, such as addition and subtraction.
• Must be able to pass a Federal Department of Transportation drug/alcohol screening and physical.
• Must maintain driving record in accordance with Federal and State Motor Carrier regulations and company policy.
• Must be able to deal with co-workers and customers in a diplomatic, manner in varied stressful situations.
• Must be able to operate vehicle and perform tasks in a safe manner and observe all safety requirements and policies.
• In-depth knowledge of the concrete plant maintenance is an asset.
• Experience with repairs and maintenance of processing equipment.
• Experience and knowledge with all types of welding procedures and equipment.
• Electrical experience along with the ability to do diagnostics on single and three phase components.
• Must be willing and able to perform duties as requested or assigned.

D. Physical Demands

• The employee must be willing and able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and have the ability to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
• The employee must be able to climb ladders and work in high precarious places up to the elevation of 80 feet.
• Requires you walk, stand, and sit.
• Requires use of hands and fingers to handle and feel.
• Required to climb, balance, kneel, crouch and crawl.
• Requires use of hearing and smell.
• Requires the ability to push and pull items with 100 pounds of force.
• Requires ability to identify and distinguish colors visually.
• Requires peripheral vision with the ability to observe an area they can be seen up and down or left and right while eyes are fixed at a given point.
• Requires depth perception which includes three-dimensional vision ability to judge distance and spatial relationships.

E. Environmental Conditions

• This position involves working outdoors the majority of the time. Weather conditions such as temperature, moisture and other conditions have a significant impact on the job. Maintenance employees must tolerate, with or without reasonable accommodations, being exposed frequently to extreme weather conditions.
• Plant sites vary greatly due to weather and location. The ground is usually rough, muddy or icy. One must be able to tolerate varied work conditions.
• There are high noise levels and significant vibration associated with this position. This may be caused by the plant, construction equipment and jobsite noise. The maintenance manager must be able to tolerate, with or without reasonable accommodation, intermittent exposure to noise, vibration and other aggravation conditions at or around the operating sites.
• There are other physical hazards that endanger life, health or bodily injury, such as proximity to moving, mechanical parts, falls, environmental conditions, moving equipment and other hazards.
• The is also exposure to cement, lime, concrete admixtures, dust, diesel fuel and other substances which may be toxic, cause burns or be explosive.
