Job Summary:

The Air Medical Education Coordinator and Flight Nurse, as a member of a highly trained and proficient team is responsible for:

The direct/indirect care of the patient (s) during pre-hospital and inter-facility transports on board the aircraft or as deemed necessary within the hospital

Assessment of any trauma or medical patient

Initiation of indicated treatment modalities in accordance with written guidelines and verbal medical control direction.

Possession Of The Knowledge And Demonstrated Skills Necessary To Provide Care Appropriate To The Age (s) Of The Patient (s) Transported By The Air Medical Service, Including:

The neonate through geriatric populations

Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan and possess

Assessment skills to allow assessment data reflective of the patient's status

Comprehension skills to assimilate the information necessary to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age

The skills necessary to provide and prioritize care based on LIFEFORCE/EHS guidelines and procedures.

The Air Medical Education Coordinator And Flight Nurse Works In And Around Helicopters In All Phases Of Flight And Assists With Maintaining Cleanliness And Efficiency Of The Air Medical Department. In Addition To Flight Nurse Duties, This Professional Is Responsible For:

Regular ACM duties

QI

Maintenance of training records

Research/special project assignments

Coordination of continuing education for flight team

Outreach education for Police/Fire/EMS/ and hospital care providers.

The ability to allow flexibility in schedule to function as staff Flight RN or staff Flight EMT-P at multiple site locations.

Education:

Required:

Graduate of a School of Nursing accredited by the State Licensing Agency. College degree or Diploma in Nursing is required. Graduate of an accredited EMT-Paramedic training program required.

Preferred:

A BS/MS is preferred.

Experience:

Required:

A minimum of three years of continuous nursing experience in an ICU or ED is required. Experience must reflect general knowledge in nursing/pre-hospital medicine principles and practice skills, current trends, and new developments. A minimum of one year of rotor wing air medical flight experience is required. A minimum of 1 year of supervisory or related experience is required, with three to five years of experience in peer education preferred.

Preferred:

Three years of rotor wing air medical flight experience is preferred. Three years of experience as an EMT-P on an Advanced Life Support Unit is preferred.

Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration

Required:

Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and an EMT-Paramedic in the State of Tennessee. BLS completed prior to going to department/unit and maintained going forward. ACLS, ITLS or PHTLS, PALS, PEPP or PBTLS, TNCC or TNATC. Current CEN, CCRN or CFRN required. Nationally Registered EMT-Paramedic must be obtained within 6 months of hire. Georgia RN and EMT-Paramedic licensure must be obtained prior to completing Life Force orientation.

Preferred:

Instructor certificates in BLS, ACLS, ITLS or PHTLS, and PALS, PEPP or PBTLS are preferred.

Required:

Due to weight limitations allowed onboard the aircraft, the maximum body weight of an acceptable candidate is 200 lbs.

Department Position Summary:

Ability to perform both Basic and Advanced Life Support practices in the execution of patient care

Possesses sound judgment and organizational ability

Possesses and demonstrates above average written and oral communication skills

Maintains proficiency as a FAA designated crewmember

Maintains provider certifications in ACLS, BLS, BTLS or PHTLS, PALS, and TNCC or TNATC, (instructor certifications preferred).

Maintains current CEN, CCRN or CFRN required.

Must be able to tolerate the stresses of flight including, but not limited to, unpressurized helicopter flight in both VFR and IFR weather conditions, motion sickness and temperature extremes.

Must be physically fit to lift, twist, bend and work in small, sometimes hazardous environments.

Must meet all FAA designated crewmembers requirement to participate in initial and random drug screening while employed as such.

Must be able to wear installed safety belts, helmets, Nomex flight suit, and boots.
