Job Summary:

A highly skilled Registered Nurse employed by Erlanger Health who is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of patients being seen and treated at Children's Hospital at Erlanger.

Serves as a clinical resource to nursing, medical, and ancillary staff.

Responds to codes, rapid responses, trauma activations, Code 60's and assists with transferring critically ill patients to the PICU.

Responsible for rapidly triaging patients to determine treatment options.

Coordinates with physicians on plan of care in an attempt to facilitate care and decrease codes.

Uses effective and constructive communication skills to convey evidence-based practice at the bedside.

May act as a project lead for department objectives and/or process improvement.

May provide input and facilitates implementation of the emergency department's goals and objectives.

Assist with orientation, clinical competencies, and continuing education opportunities for staff.

Actively participates in the evaluation, growth and development of clinical staff under the direction of unit leadership.

Participates in regular staff meetings and assists with recruitment and retention of clinical staff.

Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Experience:

Required:

Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience in PICU and/or Pediatric ED.

Evidence of progressive leadership roles in a clinical setting.

Knowledge of general nursing principles and practice skills, organizational functions, policies and regulations.

Knowledge of current trends and new developments within pediatric emergency medicine.

Preferred:

Previous case management, quality improvement and/or discharge planning experience.

Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration

Required:

Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Tennessee.

BLS and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) completed prior to going to the unit and ongoing.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 6 months and ongoing.

NIHSS Certification within 6 months and ongoing.

Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) within 6 months and ongoing.

Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) certification, Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) certification and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) within 6 months.

Annual De-escalation training

Instructor of at least one of the following: PALS, ENPC, TNCC or De-escalation

Certification by specialty within 1 year of exam eligibility for area of practice (example- CEN, CPEN, CPN, TCRN)

Preferred:

Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) certification.

Instructor in the following- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC), Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) or Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

Department Position Summary:

The position of the Critical Care Nurse Clinician Leader ED is to provide clinical expertise and continuity of care for critically ill and injured patients. This position requires a highly skilled, experienced and qualified nurse with emergency and critical care experience to manage patients in Children's Emergency Department at Erlanger. This RN collaborates with the physicians to organize care delivery and to facilitate the flow of the patient through the system. This RN provides input in the development of standardized procedures and guidelines designed to improve patient care and outcomes while striving to reach the system's goals and objectives.

This RN must possess a thorough knowledge of general nursing principles and practical skills, organizational functions, policies, procedures and DNV regulatory components, as well as trends and new developments within the nursing profession. This RN must be flexible and willing to take on new tasks and participate in unit and hospital-wide projects. Must be a self-starter that enjoys leading a collaborative team. They must be willing to take on many roles, ICU nurse, ED nurse, triage nurse, floor nurse, patient representative, grief counselor, physician liaison, case manager, educator, etc. Flexibility is required as this RN will be asked to care for patients across a variety of settings and age groups, while mentoring clinical bedside staff. This RN is expected to participate in educational projects and in-services. (i.e. in-services with nursing staff, ACLS/TNCC/BLS/Annual credentialing/ATLS, etc.)

This RN will assist in recruitment and retention of staff on the unit. They will also help with on-boarding of new staff to the department by fostering a supportive and collaborative approach and will identify and mentor staff who show potential for future EDSL positions. This RN will mentor all Children's ED staff to develop their critical care skills. This RN will assess the skill and competency of individual staff members to appropriately delegate tasks. They will facilitate open and effective communication with ancillary departments and medical staff, communicating areas of concern appropriately to leadership and actively identifies solutions for correction.

This RN must be willing to participate in injury prevention efforts coordinated through the Trauma Program. This RN may be utilized to collaborate with the Trauma Registrar and Trauma Program Manager to extract data and input into NTRACS.

This RN will participate in Children's Hospitals� partnership with Solutions for Patient Safety (SPS) to ensure proper data collection, reporting and implementation of evidence-based practice to eliminate harm.
