Job Summary:
The Exercise Technician will participate in out-patient phases of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program under the direction of their Cardiac Rehab Manager. This role assists the Cardiac Rehab Manager and licensed staff in coordinating and supervising exercise sessions for patients participating in Phases II, III, and IV of cardiac rehabilitation. The Exercise Tech will be
responsible for greeting patients and promoting a welcoming, HIPPA compliant, and friendly environment for patients. Tech will also assist with telemetry equipment setup and use, monitor and record vital signs (blood pressure, pulse oximetry, heart rate, reported exertion and dyspnea levels). Other responsibilities would include assisting with guided group exercise activities (including stretching, machines, and resistance training), reinforcing patient education that has been implemented/developed by the RN on proper exercise procedures and self-monitoring techniques, provide patient assistance as needed to support program goals and safety, assisting to file patient care reports and maintain accurate documentation. The ET duties would also include cleaning/sanitizing, helping to maintain equipment, ensuring patients have the proper equipment, training, and sanitation tools needed during sessions.

The age of the patient is primary adult, although geriatric patients may be served. Orientation, continuing education, knowledge and skills will be developed as appropriate for these categories. Must be self-motivated and works efficiently under the direction of an RN, RT, EP, or Exercise Specialist with only occasional limited supervision.
Phases II includes reinforcement of RN-developed education regarding proper exercise procedures, self-monitoring of heart rate and exertion levels during exercise. Phase III builds on phase II with patient integrated into a group setting or working more independently and Phase IV is where the patient is encouraged to work independently at home and continue with conditioning to maintain an independent exercise routine.

Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of ET competencies
- CNA or MA certification
- Knowledge of basic EKG interpretation
- Experience with performing vital signs
- Fall prevention

- One-year experience as ET and/or previous experience in cardiac and/or pulmonary care or cardiac/pulmonary rehab
Required:
- BLS certification required prior to working in the department and must be maintained throughout employment
