Job Summary:

The Corporate Safety Officer provides enterprise-wide leadership and oversight for all occupational safety, environmental safety, and life safety, activities across the hospital system. This role establishes standards, policies, and programs that promote a safe, compliant, and high reliability environment for patients, staff, physicians, and visitors.

The Corporate Safety Officer partners with organizational leaders to include clinical departments, Environment of Care (EOC) teams, and regulatory agencies to ensure ongoing compliance with OSHA, CMS, NFPA, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

Education:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Healthcare Administration, or related field required.

Preferred

  • FEMA ICS 100,200,300,700,800 (Required within one year of hire)

Experience:

Required:

  • 5-7 years of experience in healthcare safety, occupational health, EOC management, or a related field.
  • Experience in a multi facility or system level healthcare environment strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, CMS, and DNV safety regulations.
  • Proven success leading safety programs and cross-functional teams.

Preferred:

  • 10 years of progressive healthcare management experience in an integrated healthcare system.
  • Previous Safety Officer experience
  • Previous experience in Human Factor evaluation and mitigation

Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration

Required:

  • Licensure in healthcare facilities management related field
  • HAZWOPER Certification
  • OSHA training certifications

Preferred:

  • Certified Hospital Operations Personnel (CHOP) DNV

Department Position Summary:

  • Develop, implement, and manage the system wide safety strategy, policies, and programs.
  • Lead the system's EOC program, including safety, security, hazardous materials/waste, fire safety, medical equipment, and utilities management
  • Lead the standardization of safety practices across all hospitals, clinics, and support facilities.
  • Oversee programs related to workplace injury prevention, safe patient handling, ergonomics, hazardous materials management, and employee exposure control.
  • Reduce workplace injuries and workers' compensation incidents through proactive risk mitigation and data driven interventions.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, including recordkeeping, training, and hazard communication standards.
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA, CMS Conditions of Participation, DNV EOC and Life Safety standards, and state/local codes.
  • Coordinate facility audits, life safety inspections, and risk assessments.
  • Serve as Safety Officer during real-time incident command activations.
  • Ensure continuous regulatory readiness across all facilities.
  • Lead environmental preparation for surveys from CMS, DNV, OSHA, state health departments, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinate development of environmental corrective action plans and monitor follow through to closure.
  • Oversee system-wide safety reporting, dashboards, and root cause analyses for employee and visitor safety events.
  • Identify trends and guide frontline and leadership teams on risk mitigation strategies.
  • Partner with quality, patient safety, facilities, and HR to integrate data and improve overall outcomes.
  • Develop and deliver safety education programs for leaders, clinical staff, and non-clinical departments.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and high reliability across the organization.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for employee and visitor safety policies, risk assessments, and safety-related consultation.
  • Collaborate with quality, risk management, emergency management, infection prevention, HR, and facilities/engineering.
  • Actively participate in Patient Safety, Quality, and EOC committees at both corporate and facility levels.
