Job Summary:
An Erlanger Ambulance Transport Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) is responsible for direct and indirect patient care while under the direction of the Emergency Services medical director and based on the Scope of Practice guideline.
Education:
Required:
Graduate from an accredited Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Training Program.
Preferred:
An Associate's degree is recommended; a Bachelor of Science degree is preferred
Experience:
Required:
A minimum of one year of continuous experience on an Advanced Life Support Ground Unit as an AEMT. Experience must reflect general knowledge in pre-hospital medicine principles and practice skills.
Preferred:
Three years of continuous Advanced Emergency Medical Technician experience at a progressive EMS service.

An Erlanger Ambulance Transport AEMT is responsible for direct and indirect patient care while under the direction of the Emergency Medical services medical director. The AEMT is responsible for providing age specific care of initial complaint; the ongoing assessment, evaluation, and treatment of perceived, actual or potential, sudden or urgent, physical or psychosocial problems that are primarily episodic or acute. Resolution may require minimal care or life-support measures, patient and family education, appropriate referral, and knowledge of legal implications. Duties include but are not limited to the implementation of BLS and trauma protocols, medication administration, and performance of phlebotomy. Transport and supply stocking of the ambulance; some clerical functions may be required.
The AEMT must interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures. This is done through evaluation of direct supervisor by direct observation, in a skills lab, or discussed verbally or written. Competency can also be evaluated by a formal peer review process and/or by self-assessment based on objective criteria that is reviewed and validated.

- If assigned to the NICU Transport unit** When not on a transport, the position will assist in the EROC as a Logistics Specialist. Those duties include: Responsible for facilitating the smooth movement of the patients transferring from other health care facilities. Interacts with internal and external staff via telephone, fax, e-mail, and in person. Must interface with physicians and their staff, Registration and Admitting Departments, Emergency Department, and other internal departments.
