Job Summary:
The Trauma Process Improvement Coordinator chief responsibility is to act as resource to Trauma Service Line and the facility Quality Improvement department. The PI Coordinator conducts the collection, surveillance, data entry, analysis, and reporting of quality improvement information from medical records and other sources. These activities are confidential and based on predetermined clinical indicators and study methodology to support the medical staff quality improvement initiative. The PI Coordinator works closely with members of Trauma Service Line and the facility Quality Improvement department to identify opportunities for clinical quality improvement and other special projects as may be identified. The coordinator will maintain clinical competency and be able to perform clinical patient care when necessary.
This individual is responsible to take a leadership role in the development coordination, implementation and evaluation of trauma educational programs/projects for staff, patients and community both professional and public across the continuum of trauma care. Further, they will provide education that is consistent with the trauma standard of care, the Erlanger Code of Conduct, the trauma performance improvement plan and professional organizational standards. Will have oversight to ensure that all continuing education is clearly identified, maintained and consistent with the Level 3 Trauma requirements.

- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing

Experience:
Required:
- Three to five years of recent clinical nursing experience in an emergency, trauma, or critical care setting, with at least five years of clinical nursing experience required.
- Ability to interact with all members of the trauma, facility QI, and administrative staff in a professional and courteous manner.
- Computer and Internet skills and experience required. Familiarity and comfort with MS Office products is essential for success in this position (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Trauma Registry data entry.
- Trauma/EMS knowledge.

- Management experience
- Statistical knowledge
- Previous Case Management, quality improvement and/or discharge planning experience
Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration
Required:
- Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Tennessee
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Advance Trauma Care for Nursing (ATCN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) completed prior to going to department/unit and maintained going forward

Department Position Summary:
Principal duties and responsibilities of the Trauma PI/Education Coordinator include:
- Reviews performance improvement indicators or reviews medical records for accuracy, completeness of documentation, and audit filters.
- Coordinates activities to maintain hospital accreditation as a Level 1 Trauma Center.
- Coordinates patient follow-up with referring physicians, hospitals and EMS programs to maintain loop closure.
- Coordinates the Trauma Performance Improvement program.
- Participates in in-hospital educational programs (M&M, Trauma Committee, Physician Rounds, Grand Rounds, etc.)
- Assists in development, implementation and evaluation of policies, protocols and order sets based on evidenced-based practice to improve patient care and outcomes
- Attends monthly staff meetings for Trauma Services.
- Attends weekly Morbidity and Mortality conferences to ensure reliable data collection of postoperative occurrences.
- Active member of the Tennessee Trauma Care Advisory Council and the Tennessee Trauma Alliance.
- Provide Clinical expertise and continuity of care for trauma service patients and families from time of admission to discharge.
- Be willing to assist the Trauma Program Manager and Trauma Program Administrator to meet departmental goals and objectives
- Must possess a thorough knowledge of general nursing principles and practice skills, organizational functions, policies and regulations, current trends and new developments.
- He/She must be flexible and willing to take on new tasks and participate in new projects
