Role Description
Erin Air is seeking an experienced Director of Maintenance (DOM) to oversee all aircraft maintenance activities under our Part 135 certificate.
This is a full time leadership role based in Seattle, Washington. The Director of Maintenance reports directly to the President and holds full authority and responsibility for the airworthiness of company aircraft. The role requires oversight of maintenance planning, regulatory compliance, team leadership, vendor coordination, and aircraft owner communication.
The Director of Maintenance plays a critical role in ensuring aircraft safety, operational readiness, and compliance with all applicable federal aviation regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Aircraft Maintenance Oversight
- Ensure company aircraft, engines, components, and appliances are maintained in accordance with 14 CFR Part 43 and Part 135
- Schedule and oversee all inspections, maintenance events, and repairs for company aircraft
- Coordinate both in house and contracted maintenance activities
- Ensure aircraft are safely released for flight while maintaining operational schedules
- Maintain calibrated tooling inventory and shelf life controlled parts inventory
- Oversee company tooling and ground support equipment
Maintenance Records and Compliance
- Maintain aircraft maintenance records to FAA and company standards
- Audit work orders, purchase orders, and vendor invoices
- Maintain an effective maintenance control system
- Monitor and audit contract maintenance providers for compliance and performance
FAA Coordination
- Serve as primary liaison with the FAA for maintenance related matters
- Submit required reports such as Service Difficulty Reports and Mechanical Interruption Summaries
- Coordinate major repairs or alterations with contract agencies and the FAA when required
- Apply for ferry permits through the local FSDO when necessary
- Maintain strong working relationships with FAA Principal Maintenance Inspectors
Department Leadership
- Hire, supervise, and develop maintenance personnel
- Maintain training records and regulatory compliance for maintenance staff
- Provide leadership, performance management, and staff development
- Conduct regular maintenance department and aircraft budget reviews
Operational Coordination
- Work closely with the President, Director of Operations, Chief Pilot, Dispatch, and Sales teams to support operational efficiency
- Coordinate maintenance planning with aircraft owners and internal departments
- Participate in company safety programs, audits, and safety meetings
- Promote and support a strong company safety culture
Owner and Client Interaction
- Maintain professional communication with aircraft owners regarding maintenance planning and aircraft status
- Represent the maintenance department professionally when interacting with owners and charter clients on site
Qualifications
- Must meet qualification requirements under 14 CFR 119.69 and 119.71 for Director of Maintenance
- Current FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Certificate required
- Strong knowledge of aviation safety standards, airworthiness requirements, and Part 135 operations
- Understanding of relevant regulations including Parts 1, 21, 23, 25, 43, 45, 47, 65, 91, and 135
Experience Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following:
- At least 1 year of supervisory experience maintaining large aircraft with 9 or fewer passenger seats within the same category and class operated by the certificate holder
OR
- At least 3 years of experience within the last 6 years maintaining large aircraft with 9 or fewer passenger seats or working at a certificated repair station maintaining the same category and class of aircraft
Additional Requirements
- Ability to manage personnel and maintenance operations across multiple locations
- Availability for reasonable after hours response when required
- Willingness to travel for maintenance events and heavy inspections
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Ability to perform effectively in high pressure operational environments
- Experience with aviation maintenance tracking software preferred
Preferred
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Maintenance Management or related field
