Position Title: Staff Accountant

Position Summary: The Staff Accountant supports the financial operations of the Erie School District by assisting in the preparation and maintenance of financial records, reports, and general ledger activity. This position plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial information in accordance with internal policies and external regulations. Physical Demands: Physical requirements are the same as those encountered in the course of a typical professional office environment.
Work Environment: School and office with potential need to travel among schools, and various locations within the City of Erie. Occasional travel to relevant professional conferences and meetings outside of the District.

- Minimum of 24 years of experience in accounting or finance; experience in public sector or school district preferred, but not required.
- Proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Office Suite, including intermediate Excel skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Familiarity with government/school district accounting a plus.
- Prepare, record, and reconcile general ledger journal entries.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial processes.
- Support the preparation of financial reports for internal use and external stakeholders.
- Assist in monitoring budgets and expenditures.
- Coordinate with departments to resolve accounting issues and ensure accuracy of financial data.
- Provide accounting analysis and related support to external partners, school departments, and administration staff as needed.
- Assist with the annual audit by preparing schedules, documentation, and responses to auditor inquiries.
- Maintain organized records in accordance with district policy and audit standards.
- Collaborate with other members of the finance team to identify opportunities for improved processes and controls.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Controller or CFO.
