Position Summary
Participates in a life underwriting training program. Learns and performs life underwriting functions under guidance and within level of authority, which appraise and select risks the company will insure.
- This position is based out of our Corporate Office in Erie, PA.
- Under the guidance of a mentor or trainer, develops the competency to analyze life insurance application information and begins to apply knowledge and acquired skills to perform underwriting tasks.
- Corresponds, develops, and maintains working relationships with Agents, ERIE sales force and other departments through meetings, phone contact and email. Attends meetings as required to learn to establish rapport with agents and develop knowledge of ERIE’s territories
- Reviews applications, medical records, financial data, and other appropriate sources to determine acceptability and adequate rate classes.

Minimum education and experience requirements
- Bachelor's degree required; or
- Associates degree and two years related experience required; or
- High school diploma, or GED, and four years related experience required; or
- High school diploma, or GED, and successful completion of FLMI or FALU designation required.
- Working knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing and email software required.
- Occasional travel required.
- Willingness to enroll in and complete the Insurance Fundamentals Certificate (LOMA 281 and 291) or related insurance program required.
