Oil Change Technician — Job Overview

We’re looking for a dependable, detail-oriented Oil Change Technician who takes pride in doing the job right every single time. This is a fast-paced, hands-on position where consistency, safety, and teamwork matter. Your main responsibility is to perform oil change services using our standardized procedures to ensure reliable results, protect customer vehicles, and minimize risk to both employees and the shop.

This is not a “stand around” job — you’ll be moving, communicating with your team, and working directly with vehicles throughout the day. If you’re reliable, coachable, and not afraid to get dirty, this role can be a great fit.

Core Responsibilities

  • Safely guide vehicles into the service bay and confirm correct positioning with the pit technician
  • Perform pre-service checks according to manufacturer recommendations
  • Follow established oil change procedures step-by-step with accuracy
  • Inspect key vehicle components and fluids while documenting findings
  • Communicate clearly with team members and customers when needed
  • Make honest maintenance recommendations based on vehicle condition
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
  • Ensure all work meets company standards before the vehicle leaves the bay

Standard Service Procedure

Technicians are expected to follow this process consistently to ensure quality and safety:

  • Guide vehicle into the building and verify placement with the pit operator
  • Check transmission using manufacturer-recommended method (sealed transmissions are not checked) and signal driver to shut off engine
  • Check oil level before draining and note any concerns
  • Verify correct vehicle information in the bay terminal, remove oil cap, install hood cover, and signal pit to drain
  • Remove or loosen upper oil filter housing as required
  • Inspect and service engine bay from left to right:
  • Washer fluid
  • Power steering fluid
  • Coolant (do not open if hot or pressurized)
  • Visual brake fluid check (do not open)
  • Remove and show engine air filter to customer; recommend replacement if needed
  • Check cabin air filter (if equipped) and recommend replacement if needed
  • Inspect wiper blades and recommend replacement if needed
  • Add correct amount and type of oil when signaled
  • Reinstall oil cap, fluid caps, air filter housing, and reconnect any sensors
  • Start vehicle only after confirmation from pit operator and run until cleared
  • Recheck oil level and adjust if necessary
  • Complete service checklist, document findings, and verify return reminder is applied
  • Close hood and physically confirm it is secure

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong reliability — attendance and punctuality are critical
  • Ability to follow procedures exactly and work safely
  • Comfortable working on your feet in a shop environment
  • Willingness to learn and accept coaching
  • Team player with clear communication skills
  • Attention to detail — small mistakes can cause big problems
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced setting
  • Valid driver’s license preferred

Physical & Work Expectations

  • Must be comfortable working around vehicles, tools, fluids, and noise
  • Able to lift, bend, kneel, and stand for extended periods
  • Not afraid to get dirty — this is hands-on mechanical work
  • Must follow all safety procedures at all times

This role is ideal for someone who shows up on time, works hard, supports their team, and takes pride in delivering consistent, quality service. If you want a stable position where effort and reliability matter, we want to hear from you.
