Salary

BA Step 1 $49,447 or MA Step 1 $52,190 per GITA contract

Duties

This classroom is life skills based elementary classroom. The Life Skills teacher collaborates with the teaching assistant and classroom aides to implement instruction based on individual needs. The candidate will implement and monitor IEP goal progression and provide updates on the students' progress to families.

Minimum Qualifications

• NYS Elementary Certification in students with Disabilities 1-6 required.
• Ability to use instructional Technology to improve student performance and address professional responsibilities.
• Skill in collaborating with multidisciplinary teams (e.g., speech therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and families) to ensure cohesive and student-centered programming.
• Ability to create a structured, supportive classroom environment that uses positive behavior supports and meets the diverse cognitive, social, and sensory needs of students.
• Experience designing and implementing individualized instruction aligned to IEP goals, with a strong emphasis on functional academics, communication, and daily living skills.
• Understand IEP mandates and assessment protocols.
• Proven ability to read, implement, collect data on, and adjust goals in IEP's.
• Familiarity with a variety of special education teaching models.
• Familiarity working with students with disabilities.
• Having CPI training preferred.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to use positive behavior management strategies and support a positive classroom environment.
