Most of the duties are described below, along with other tasks as needed to ensure smooth patient care and office flow.
- Set up instrument trays and prepare the operatory for various procedures.
- Take high‐quality digital X‐rays, panoramic images, photos, and intraoral photos as directed by the dentist.
- Take preliminary impressions, pour and trim plaster models, and fabricate temporary crowns or bleaching trays.
- Ensure all supplies are fully stocked in drawers and organizers.
- Keep mirrors and light covers clean and free of water residue.
- Assist hygienists with turning over rooms between patients.
- Bring patients back on time or communicate delays when necessary.
- Greet and escort patients to the treatment room, seat them comfortably, and prepare them for their appointment (e.g., showing tooth chart and offering TV).
- Provide post‐operative instructions and educate patients on oral hygiene when needed.
- Review and update patient medical histories and record vital signs when appropriate.
- Meticulously clean and disinfect treatment rooms between patients following OSHA, CDC, and office‐specific protocols.
- Sterilize and disinfect instruments using autoclaves and ultrasonic cleaners.
- Maintain a clean, organized sterilization area at all times.
- Perform routine maintenance on dental equipment (e.g., lubricating handpieces, flushing water lines, water testing, eyewash station checks, nitrous chekcs, etc.).
- Care for all instruments and equipment to ensure longevity and proper function.
- Support, help, and respect all team members to maintain a positive work environment.
- Efficiently manage dental supply inventory and place orders when stock is low using the tag system.
- Assist the front office with scheduling, answering phones, and confirming appointments during downtime or when needed.
- Maintain accurate patient treatment records in dental software.
- Perform end‐of‐day cleaning in all areas, including the hygiene room and the doctor’s office (e.g., trash/recycling, floors, dusting,etc.).
- Keep all drawers and cabinets organized and clean.
- Maintain overall office cleanliness at all times.
