Quality Control Supervisor

ERI
Plainfield, IN Full Time
POSTED ON 9/19/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 10/17/2026

THE OPPORTUNITY

Every device that comes through our doors is a puzzle worth solving: what can be recovered, how cleanly, and at what value. As Quality Control Supervisor, you own the answer.

This is a hands-on leadership role at one of our large-scale shredding and commodity processing facilities. You set the standard for what leaves this building — the grades, the purity, the specifications our smelters, refiners, and downstream partners depend on. When contamination drops and recovery yields climb, that is your work showing up on the scale, in the sales price, and in the material kept out of a landfill.

You will not be doing this from behind a desk. You will be on the floor with operators, in the data with the sales team, and at the table with Operations, Logistics, Environmental, and Safety. It is a role with real reach across the facility and visible impact on the business.

WHAT YOU WILL OWN

Commodity Quality

  • Oversee inspection, classification, and quality verification of all incoming feedstock and commodities.
  • Make sure every outgoing commodity meets customer, smelter, refinery, and downstream processor specifications.
  • Build and maintain the quality standards for each material stream — these become the facility’s playbook.
  • Monitor contamination levels and drive corrective action when something drifts.
  • Run routine sampling, testing, analysis, and reporting.
  • Verify grades and specifications before shipment. Nothing goes out unverified.

Production Quality Control

  • Monitor production to keep commodity quality and recovery rates consistent.
  • Conduct quality audits across shredding, sorting, and material recovery.
  • Dig into quality issues, find root causes, and turn them into process improvements.
  • Partner with Operations and Maintenance to improve recovery and cut contamination.
  • Establish and track the quality KPIs the facility runs on.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Work shoulder to shoulder with Operations, Commodity Sales, Transportation, Environmental, Safety, and Facility Management.
  • Coordinate with every department generating commodities so quality requirements are understood and met.
  • Arm the commodity sales team with quality data, specifications, and recovery information they can sell on.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for quality concerns and investigations.

Training & Development

  • Design and deliver quality control training for production employees and supervisors.
  • Train staff on commodity identification, contamination prevention, quality standards, and inspection procedures.
  • Provide refresher training and corrective coaching as needed.
  • Build a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement across the facility.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly quality reports.
  • Track quality trends, contamination rates, recovery performance, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate quality records, inspection reports, sampling results, and customer specifications.
  • Bring management recommendations that improve both quality and profitability.

Continuous Improvement

  • Lead improvement initiatives that raise commodity value and customer satisfaction.
  • Analyze quality data to surface trends and operational opportunities.
  • Develop and implement quality control SOPs.
  • Participate in facility audits and compliance inspections.
  • Support new commodity development, testing programs, and process optimization projects.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 5 years in commodity processing, recycling, manufacturing, metals, or a related industry.
  • 3 years supervising or managing a team.
  • A strong working knowledge of commodity grading, specifications, contamination control, and material recovery.
  • Experience building and implementing quality control programs — not just following them.
  • A proven ability to lead, coach, and train people at every level of an operation.
  • Sharp analytical and problem-solving instincts.
  • Clear communication and genuine comfort working across departments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, data analysis, and reporting systems.

WHAT SETS YOU APART

  • Background in electronics recycling, shredding operations, metals recovery, or commodity processing facilities.
  • Working knowledge of ferrous, non-ferrous, precious metals, plastics, batteries, and other recyclable commodities.
  • Experience with ISO, R2, e-Stewards, or similar quality and environmental management systems.
  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement training.
  • An understanding of commodity markets and what downstream customers actually need.

HOW SUCCESS IS MEASURED

You will know this role is working when:

  • Contamination rates come down.
  • Commodity grades — and the market value behind them — go up.
  • Recovery yields and production efficiency improve.
  • Customer quality complaints and rejected shipments become rare.
  • Employee quality training objectives are met.
  • Quality and operational KPIs hold steady, month after month.
