Ergon Marine & Industrial Supply, Inc., has an opening for a Tankerman at its Wood River, IL, location.

Our crews do not live aboard the vessels, which allows you more time at home instead of being gone weeks at a time in other marine jobs.

The Tankerman will perform cargo transfers in a safe and efficient manner, and always be in compliance with both U.S. Coast Guard and company regulations, as well as performing his regular duties as a deckhand.
Tankerman Responsibilities include the following:
- Load and discharge liquid products from tank barges in a safe, efficient manner.
- Know how to operate all assigned barge equipment including forklift.
- Have a good knowledge of laws and regulations concerning cargo transfer and oil pollution prevention.
- Must have "hands on" knowledge of the procedures necessary to load and discharge the barges for which you are responsible.
- Remain on barge and supervise the connecting and disconnecting of hoses.
- Inspect barge following all the safety rules and cargo transfer procedures.
- Ensure that the required firefighting equipment is aboard any barge before starting to load or unload the barge.
- When not performing Tankerman duties, the Tankerman will assume the responsibilities and duties of a deckhand.
- Perform general maintenance and clean boat and barges.
- Check the crewboat at night and on weekends.
- Assist other departments as needed.
- Must be at work on time.
- Always be friendly and courteous to all customers and co-workers.
- Have full knowledge of the Vessel Response Plan.
Tankerman Qualifications:
- U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner's Document with P.I.C. endorsement
- Valid TWIC card
- Valid Driver's License
- Friendly disposition and good people skills
- On the job training for the barges assigned.
- Approved for position by pilot and Marine Operations Manager
- Must be able to swim
The person selected must be able to work in any environment (heat, cold, rain, etc.).
