Position Overview
The Business Development Lead is responsible for driving strategic growth by identifying, developing, and maintaining relationships that generate new business opportunities within the commercial and industrial construction markets. This role focuses on building long-term partnerships with owners, developers, engineers, and subcontractors while supporting proposal development, market strategy, and contract negotiations to achieve organizational revenue and growth objectives.
Qualifications
- 5–10 years of experience in commercial or industrial construction
- Demonstrated experience in business development, project management, or client relationship management
- Experience supporting proposal and bid development processes
- Proven ability to build and maintain client relationships
Working knowledge of:
- Construction scopes and delivery methods
- Project schedules and cost structures
- Contract terms and negotiation strategies
- Pre-construction and estimating processes
Preferred Qualifications:
- Established relationships within regional construction markets
- Proven success in generating new business opportunities
- Strong understanding of commercial construction industry trends
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams
- Professional certifications such as:
- Certified Professional Constructor (CPC)
- Certified Construction Manager (CCM)
- Business Development or Sales certifications
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead generation and strategic prospecting within targeted markets
- Develop and maintain strong client and industry relationships
- Identify and pursue new project opportunities aligned with company capabilities
- Support proposal development, including RFQs, RFPs, and prequalification packages
- Conduct market research and competitive analysis
- Collaborate with operations, estimating, and leadership teams on project pursuits
- Participate in industry events, conferences, and networking activities
- Support contract negotiations and business development strategy
- Promote company brand awareness and market presence
- Maintain accurate tracking of leads, opportunities, and pipeline activity
