R&D Engineering Technician

Role overview 

As a R&D Engineering Technician, you’ll be responsible for performing a range of chemical reactions and processes, particularly involving air-sensitive materials. This role involves handling, monitoring, and analyzing chemical reactions, conducting preventive maintenance, and ensuring that all operations adhere to strict safety and quality standards. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in a chemical manufacturing environment, with specific expertise in handling air-sensitive reagents and processes. 

Key deliverables for this role 
 

• Perform reactions, purifications, distillations, sublimation, recrystallizations of air sensitive chemistry 

• Charges solids, liquids or gasses to reactors and glassware, monitor chemical reactions using laboratory equipment 

• Pull chemistry samples and submit to the lab for analysis and perform in-process analytical testing (GC, mp, TLC, UV-Vis, KF, etc.), including work-ups and simple interpretations as described within a batch record 

• Enter information into lab notebooks, MPRs, logs, checklists, etc. 

• Participate in root cause analysis on disqualified projects 

• Contribute to constant improvements initiatives 

• Preparing and filling containers of various chemistry for customers 

• Complete Preventive Maintenance projects 
   

Traits of a strong candidate 

• Demonstrated experience in a chemical manufacturing industry; associates or bachelor’s degree in a technical field would be beneficial 

• Prior air-sensitive experience using inert gasses and techniques 

• Prior experience in transferring air-sensitive reagents (solid, liquid or gas) into reactor systems, distillations, or final packaging  

• Ability to regularly lift up to 50lbs  

• Ability to gain respirator certification and wear proper PPE as required; 

• Ability to understand and work effectively in a culturally diverse organization 

• Exhibited strong safety culture and drive to improve 

• Working knowledge of ISO 9001 

Education and Experience: 

• High School Diploma or GED (required) with a technical degree or certification in a related field (desired). 

• Minimum of 2 years of experience working in the chemical industry, ideally air-sensitive experience.
