Position Summary
The Logistics Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing all outbound shipments of Erdman Automation equipment. This role oversees the logistics process from quoting freight to preparing documentation, packaging equipment, and ensuring safe, efficient loading. Because our machinery is often large and irregularly shaped, the position requires hands-on involvement in packaging, basic carpentry skills, and proficiency with material-handling equipment.
The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, safety-focused, and an excellent communicator with trucking companies and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities
Shipping Coordination
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate all outbound equipment shipments to customers.
- Obtain freight quotes and evaluate carriers for cost, reliability, and equipment suitability.
- Communicate shipping requirements to freight brokers and trucking companies, including needed equipment such as tarps, bungee cords, chains, straps, etc.
- Confirm pickup dates, times, and driver requirements.
Documentation & Compliance
- Create packing slips, Bills of Lading, and other necessary shipping documentation.
- Ensure accuracy of shipment details, including weights, dimensions, and special handling notes.
- Maintain shipping records, logs, and documentation for internal tracking and customer communication.
Packaging & Preparation
- Assist with physical preparation and packaging of automated equipment.
- Use bolt wrap, protective materials, and custom bracing to secure equipment.
- Perform basic carpentry tasks (e.g., cutting and assembling 2×4 bracing, blocking, or protective structures around irregularly shaped equipment).
- Ensure packaged equipment meets safety and structural requirements for over-the-road transport.
Loading & Material Handling
- Assist with loading equipment onto trucks, coordinating with drivers and internal teams.
- Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment safely and efficiently.
- Verify that loads are secured properly and safely before releasing the truck.
Internal & External Communication
- Coordinate with production, assembly, and project management teams to understand shipping timelines and readiness.
- Maintain strong communication with freight providers to ensure everyone is aligned on equipment needs, truck type, and safety requirements.
- Provide updates to internal teams and customers as needed regarding shipment status.
Qualifications
Required
- Experience in shipping, logistics, or freight coordination.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with freight companies and drivers.
- Ability to read and interpret measurements, weights, and equipment specifications.
- Hands-on skills, including basic carpentry and mechanical aptitude.
- Forklift experience or willingness to become certified.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and work safely around large industrial equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Preferred
- Experience handling and shipping large industrial machinery or automation equipment.
- Knowledge of over-the-road freight requirements (flatbeds, step-decks, RGN trailers, etc.).
- Familiarity with packaging techniques for heavy/awkward loads.

Work Environment

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 45 per week
