The Market Operations Analyst Lead serves as a subject matter expert and technical team lead within ERCOT’s CRR Market Operations group. This role provides advanced analysis, operational oversight, and strategic guidance to ensure the efficient and reliable operation of ERCOT’s Congestion Revenue Rights market. The position is responsible for supporting and assisting day-to-day market activities, leading complex operational and analytical projects, software development, and mentoring analysts to ensure compliance with ERCOT Protocols, Operating Guides, and Market Rules. The ideal candidate demonstrates deep expertise in ERCOT market design and operations, exceptional analytical capabilities, and strong leadership and communication skills to support market participants, internal teams, and other stakeholders. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities Operational Oversight: Support and assist in daily operations of ERCOT’s Congestion Revenue Rights (CRR) business processes to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with established protocols. Takes lead support role in the creation, troubleshooting, and validation of ERCOT network models for CRR markets. Market Analysis & Reporting: Conduct advanced analysis of market performance, price formation, and system conditions. Identify and explain market anomalies or deviations, and produce comprehensive reports for ERCOT management and stakeholders. Leadership & Mentorship: Serve as a technical lead and mentor to CRR Market Operations team as well as ERCOT teams interacting with CRR. Provide training, guidance, and performance feedback, ensuring continuous development of analytical and operational expertise within the team. Market Event Management: Lead investigations and root-cause analyses for significant market events, market participant disputes, settlements and credit issues. Collaborate with other departments to resolve discrepancies and enhance market design. System & Process Improvement and Support: Drive continuous improvement in market and analytical tools, procedures, and automation. Work with IT, vendor, and project management teams to develop requirements and Use Cases to validate new functionality for ERCOT CRR market system. Coordinate/implement/support testing procedures and data preparation for CRR market system changes and production troubleshooting. Lead studies for potential market changes and produce comprehensive reports for stakeholder discussion. Stakeholder Support: Serve as a key liaison between ERCOT and Market Participants, providing subject matter expertise, technical explanations, and guidance during market events, testing, and communications. Compliance & Documentation: Ensure adherence to ERCOT Protocols, Operating Guides, and NERC standards. Maintain and update operational documentation, training materials, and standard operating procedures. Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with Market Design, Settlements, Grid Operations, and Regulatory teams to support market initiatives, rule changes, and operational readiness. Required Qualifications 6 years of experience in electric power markets, grid operations, or energy analytics. Proven experience in data analysis tools - SQL and Python. Proven proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Power BI (or similar visualization tools). Proven ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams. Preferred Qualifications 2 years in a leadership or mentoring role preferred. Familiarity with Linux Command Line Interface (CLI). Deep understanding of ERCOT market structure, Protocols, and pricing mechanisms. Prior experience working at ERCOT, another ISO/RTO, or an energy market participant. Experience with EMS, MMS, or other market systems. Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to convey technical information clearly. High attention to detail and ability to perform under tight deadlines. Strong organizational and documentation skills. Education A bachelor’s degree in engineering, Economics, Finance, Mathematics, or related field is required. Through the program, an EDP Engineer receives one-on-one mentoring, specialized training, and exposure to the work performed by each of the engineering groups at ERCOT. The program allows engineers to develop the fundamental skills necessary to reach their full potential while gaining an understanding of the types of engineering work ERCOT has to offer. EDP management supports participants each step of the way as they progress through the program. Upon completion, graduates are placed as full-time engineers within one of ERCOT’s engineering groups. The GMS Development Program (GDP) is designed to provide entry-level and early career professionals with the skills necessary to become successful Power System and Computer Engineers. The program, which is based in ERCOT’s Grid and Market Solutions (GMS) Department, will provide experience in day-to-day work and instruction in the fundamentals of electric power systems engineering, grid and market applications, software programming, and IT service and operations management.
