Position Summary:

The Systems Process Manager (SPM) is a key member of the Support Services Group supporting E.R. Jahna’s Mining and Contract Dredging operations. This role is responsible for the development, planning, and execution of capital projects and process improvements, with a strong emphasis on electrical systems, instrumentation, and automation.

The SPM partners closely with Area Managers, Plant Managers, and site leadership to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective electrical and process system solutions. This position plays a critical role in ensuring projects are executed with a high standard of safety, quality, efficiency, and operational impact.

Success in this role requires expertise in electrical design, process control systems, project planning, scheduling, and field execution, along with strong communication and leadership skills. SPM operates as a technical subject matter expert, providing engineering support, troubleshooting, system optimization, and project oversight across multiple sites.

This position interacts daily with operations personnel, frontline leadership, contractors, and vendors, and requires the ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining alignment with company goals and timelines.

Responsibilities:

· Actively Promote E.R. Jahna’s Core Standards of Safety, People, Quality, Delivery and Cost (SPQDC).

· Use the well-established Jahna DDS (Daily Directional Setting) Meetings along with the fundamentals of our SPQDC culture to manage all aspects of the daily business.

· Maintain a safe working environment, safe working practices and ensure all safety notification & reporting processes are in place.

· Provide coaching, motivation, leadership, and support to personnel to ensure the development of a high-performance team.

· Develop action plans and measures to meet and/or exceed budgeted production and cost goals.

· Ability to work with all levels of the workforce (Hourly, Plant, Area, and Senior Management) to achieve organizational goals.

  • Promote and develop teamwork within the E.R. Jahna Industries organization.
  • Work ethically, practice good business judgment, and conform to all state and federal laws as well as follow and enforce all E.R. Jahna’s standards and policies.
  • System Maintenance & Reliability: Establish and enforce preventive maintenance programs for industrial equipment (motors, transformers, 4160 VAC & 480 VAC 3-phase motor control systems).
  • Project Management: Supervise electrical installations, from design through procurement and commissioning.
  • Automation & Controls: Oversee SCADA systems, PLC logic, and instrumentation for dredge automation and monitoring to optimize production.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure all operations meet MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration) and NEC (National Electrical Code) standards, including Arc Flash mitigation.
  • Troubleshooting: Lead the technical resolution of electrical issues on site to minimize downtime for conveyors and sand dredge machinery.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor electrical maintenance staff, technicians, and external contractors
  • Other duties as assigned or required to meet performance and safety requirements.

Key Job Duties:

Electrical Systems & Process Improvement

· Lead the design, installation, and optimization of electrical systems, PLC-based automation, and process instrumentation across mining operations

· Develop and maintain control systems (PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and SCADA systems) to support efficient and reliable plant operations

· Oversee specification, installation, calibration, and troubleshooting of instrumentation, including sensors for flow, pressure, temperature, vibration, and level monitoring

· Support and enhance predictive and preventative maintenance programs through automation, monitoring devices, and data analysis

· Troubleshoot complex electrical and control system issues, minimizing downtime and improving system performance

· Ensure all systems meet ERJ electrical standards, control specifications, and documentation requirements

· Evaluate and recommend technology upgrades and automation solutions to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual processes

Project Management & Execution

· Plan, scope, and execute capital and process improvement projects from concept, design, and budgeting through installation and commissioning

· Develop and manage project schedules, timelines, and budgets, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within cost expectations

· Coordinate with plant managers, area leadership, and support services to align projects with operational priorities

· Lead on-site project execution, including contractor management, quality assurance, and system commissioning

· Monitor project performance, identify risks, and implement corrective actions to maintain progress

· Ensure proper documentation, turnover, and training upon project completion

Leadership & Team Support

· Provide leadership, coaching, and technical direction to electrical staff, technicians, and contractors

· Assist with workforce planning, scheduling, and prioritization of electrical and automation work across sites

· Conduct performance feedback, training, and development to strengthen team capabilities

· Step into Head Electrician responsibilities when required to support operational needs

· Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement

Communication & Reporting

· Serve as a key liaison between operations, maintenance, contractors, vendors, and leadership teams

· Communicate project updates, system performance, and improvement opportunities clearly and effectively

· Maintain detailed and organized documentation, including:

· Daily project logs and field updates

· Weekly progress and status reports

· Project summaries and performance reports to leadership

· Provide technical guidance and support in resolving operational and system-related challenges

Continuous Improvement & Reliability

· Identify opportunities to improve plant performance, system reliability, and cost efficiency

· Implement and support automation and instrumentation solutions that enhance real-time monitoring and decision-making

· Drive initiatives focused on reducing downtime, improving throughput, and extending equipment life

· Support standardization of electrical and control systems across multiple sites

· Analyze system data and trends to proactively address potential issues and optimize performance

Qualifications & Education Requirements:

· High school diploma required; trade school or technical certification strongly preferred · Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field preferred · Minimum 5 years of field experience in electrical systems, process controls, or industrial environments (mining, aggregates, or similar preferred) · Demonstrated experience in: o Electrical system design and layout o Process control systems and automation o Electrical troubleshooting and diagnostics o Project scheduling and construction/project management · Strong leadership, organizational, analytical, and communication skills · Ability to work effectively in a multi-site, team-oriented, and multicultural environment · Valid Florida driver’s license with acceptable driving record· Must be organized, dedicated, and possess good communication skills, both written and verbal.· Must convey a positive attitude and be continually focused on satisfying internal company requirements.· Must possess excellent organizational skills, analytical ability, written and verbal communication skills.· Must utilize a team-based approach to solving problems and making improvements:

  • Must observe and comply with all Safety policies and procedures.
  • Complete safety, health, and task training. (i.e. MSHA Part 46, First Aid, and CPR).
  • Perform other tasks associated with the job.
  • General knowledge of safety, environmental and other federal, state, and local regulations.
  • General knowledge of machinery and equipment mechanics.
  • Complete assigned training as required.
  • Fulfill other jobs as required.
  • Meet/exceed the company safety standards.
  • Ability/willingness to travel overnight to other mine locations in and out of state.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls. The employee is continually required to walk, sit, climb or balance, and occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, listen and smell.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds utilizing a team-lift approach. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Note: This employee drives a company vehicle.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works outside in adverse weather conditions. The employee frequently works near loud moving mechanical parts, frequently exposed to wet, hot and/or humid conditions, and exposed to vibration.

Employees must follow all safety guidelines throughout designated shift. Must wear minimum 6" steel toe boots, safety vest, eye protection, hard hat and additional PPE as required.
