What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at Equity Cooperative Livestock Sales Association?
Overview:
Equity, Wisconsin’s largest livestock marketing cooperative, is also one of the nation’s largest livestock marketing organizations. Service to its members is a primary obligation of all employees. This position will positively conduct activities and services of the Accounting Department under the direction of the Vice President of Finance.
Essential Functions:
- Overseeing the preparation of accurate financial statements and ensuring they comply with accounting principles and guidelines.
- Managing all aspects of accounting, including cash management, accounts payable and general ledger maintenance.
- Establishing and maintaining internal controls to safeguard company assets and prevent fraud.
- Manage and mentor accounting staff. Provide guidance and support to ensure professional development.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, evaluate performance, and support strategic decision-making.
- Coordinate and lead external audits, providing necessary information and explanations to auditors.
- Collaborate with senior management to develop financial strategies and align them with overall business goals.
- Provide support to the corporate office and all market locations in Wisconsin and Iowa.
- Process data through various software, including SAGE accounting software, proprietary livestock marketing software, and Microsoft Office suite.
- Function in accordance with established standards, procedures, regulations, tax requirements, and applicable laws.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent work experience; CPA Certification Preferred
- Minimum 5 years of experience in corporate accounting or finance
- Competency in MS Office, databases and accounting software
- Hands-on experience with spreadsheets and financial reports
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and develop insights
- Exceptional communication both verbal and written
- Interpersonal skills, working efficiently, and well organized
- Strong reasoning, judgment and decision-making capabili
