What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technician position at Equipment NW?
The Technician position exists at CRE/ENW to meet customer needs at the CRE/ENW LaPine operation. This position requires an individual to cross train in all aspects of the operation with a focus on equipment service of customers’ and company equipment.
Essential Functions:
Regular and consistent punctuality and attendance are essential functions of this position.
- Embrace being part of a small but growing team actively supported by the mothership in Barlow, Oregon. Serving customers since 1979.
- Enjoy wearing the “hat” that the day/customers require. Changing direction/tasks quickly creating an awesome customer experience in all departments (sales, service, rental, parts)
- Train to back up the store manager to meet customer needs.
- Run the LaPine Branch Service Department needs, which shall provide a world-class service experience, based on providing high quality repairs/maintenance through excellent product training and knowledge.
- Possess a thorough working knowledge of Service procedures and best practices in both Outdoor Power Equipment and Construction Equipment Maintenance and Repair.
- Establish, monitor and adjust systems (both paperwork and electronic) to maximize efficiency and productivity in the Service department.
- Direct communication with customers when needed for comebacks or technical explanations.
- Ensure superior customer experience through thoughtful de-escalation of circumstances regarding issues in the Service department.
- Triage customers’ and company owned equipment to keep workflow accurate and timely
- Hands on approach to repairs and routine service.
- Being familiar and comfortable with various tools to accomplish mechanical work.
- Seeking out & participating in job-applicable training opportunities.
- Maintaining generally acceptable grooming procedures, including clean uniforms and clothing.
- Have sufficient experience to pick up and deliver branch rental equipment to customers safely and demonstrate safe operation of all machines. This requires pickup and trailer experience (Non CDL).
- Follow dealership Pre Delivery Inspection (PDI) procedures for all outbound new equipment sales units at branch.
Maintain confidence and protect CRE operations by keeping information confidential.
Education and Work Experience and Licenses:
- A high school diploma or equivalent GED is required.
- Trade school for Heavy Equipment Repair or Diesel Technology diploma or certificate preferred.
- 3 Years minimum verifiable equipment repair work history preferred.
- Experience with multi brand engine diagnostic software preferred.
- Hydraulic breakdown and repair of pumps, motors, and cylinders preferred.
- Valid Oregon Driver's License.
- Must be insurable through company insurance.
- Must pass company background check.

- Computer literacy: Windows, MS Office 365, email.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Superior communication and organizational skills.
- Must perform duties with moderate direction given, operating from established directions and instructions.
Physical Prerequisites of the Job:
- Ability to continually lift/move approximately up to 75 lbs.
- Must have good eyesight (correctable to 20/20).
Job Conditions:
- May have exposure to chemicals, including but not limited to gasoline, diesel fuel, propane, kerosene, and cleaning solvents.
- Shop environment: noisy, running/moving machinery, some engine exhaust.
- A portion of the job is outside and occurs in all seasons.
Non-Physical Prerequisites of the Job:
- The position exists in an active, fast-paced environment with nearly constant stimulus, thus multi-tasking is necessary.
- Will need to organize and prioritize work so that daily tasks are completed in a timely manner.
